=> x = 1+ cos^2y(cos^2y - 1)
=> x = 1- [sin^2(2y)]/4

to minimize x, sin^2(2y) should be maximum.

so, sin^2(2y) = 1

min(x) = 1-1/4 = 3/4

to maximise x, sin^2(2y) should be minimum, which is 0

so max(x) = 1- 0 = 1


so, range of x is 3/4
