( x+1/x)^3 = 3rt3

x^3 + 1/x^3 +3(x+1/x) = 3rt3

x^3 +1/x^3 = 3rt3-3rt3 = 0

let x be the amount he returned after completion of 2 years.....
amount upto 2 years = 40,000 + 40,000*8*2/100= 46400
so, leftover sum after returning Rs. x = 46400-x
amount payable at the end of 5 years= (46400-x) + (46400-x)*8*3/100 = 35960(given)
