CAP Rounds, Mumbai (23rd Feb 8:30AM)
CAT: 98.96
Acads: 87/70/65 (ECE grad)
Work ex: 32 months, Infosys
WAT: Social media is used to spread false information, give your take with relevant examples (20 min)
(Could not gather more than 2-3 examples however wrote a decent introduction but concluded abruptly due to lack of time)
Interview (1 Male (M) and 1 female (F) both in their early 40s)
(The description is long, please bear with me)
M: Please come in and have a seat
F: Show your documents and identity proof
(I hand over my PAN card)
F: Cute photograph.
Me: (huh ?) Thank you
F: What did you gather from the earlier candidates?
Me: Nothing
F: So you are not smart enough ?
Me: No that is not the case, I am usually at the fag end in all of my interviews. Earlier I used to try getting pointers from my earlier candidates but everybody gave a different story. This tensed me up and at the end of the day I was asked a completely different set of questions. Since then I avoid doing it.
(M and F have a hearty laugh)
F: Tell us something about the Indian Constitution.
Me: (I am lost) It was put into effect in 1950 by...
F: We don't want all that. Tell us what it contains and what changes do you want.
Me: Constitution contains set of rules which have to be abided by the citizens...(some gyan).. Mam one thing which I want to change is the recent idea of uniform civil code to be actually implemented in the Constitution.. give triple talaak and some other 1992 incident as examples.
F: It will not handle minute grievances. What to do ?
Me: Mam maybe we can provide exceptions for certain rare cases.. (some more gyan).. (somehow directed them towards demonetization since Constitution was not a familiar playing ground)
F: Explain demonetization and it's effects.
Me: Defined it and stated some statistics.
M: These statistics are incorrect, we could only negate a very small portion of black money and not 40-50%(I mentioned this)
Me: Sir I have read this in ET
(M shaking his head vigorously)
M:What might be the reason for its failure ?
Me:People do find loopholes in the existing system(gave an example wherein corrupt people distribute their wealth to the poor asking them to deposit it in the bank and later reclaim that when the air settles down)
F: What should we do in such cases ?
Me: Maybe keep a check of things at grass root level, but again it is easier said than done.
F: What should be our aim reduce or remove corruption ?
Me: Ideally remove, practically reducing it would also be enough, currently that is what has happened.
M(out of nowhere): What are resistors and their color coding ?
Me: explained
M: Draw a Ex-NOR circuit
Me: Tried but could not recall
M: What are VSATs
Me: Don't know
M: Explain CMOS
Me: Can't recall
M: Explain working of flip flops
Me: Don't know
(It's been 6 years since I studied these concepts..damn)
(Meanwhile the waiter brings in watermelon juice and paneer tikka. Since I had skipped my breakfast I hungrily stared at it for a nano second; M almost caught me staring at the dish)
(Back to business..)
M: Harpreet Singh was left out of IPL because a newspaper incorrectly printed his name in relation to an accident. What do you feel ?
Me: He should post an appeal to KXIP, try playing at base price, try getting added to the team later on like Ganguly did in IPL 2009, knock BCCI's door.
F: Shouldn't he go to court ?
Me: It would be better if he can sort out with the governing authority,BCCI.
F: You work at Infosys ? How many people work under you ?
Me: 2, they are my juniors.
F: Do they follow your advice or trust you blindly ?
Me: Trust me blindly since there is..
(M laughed so hard, I was scared as to what wrong did I do ?)
F: Do you have a fight with your boss ?
Me: Yes, when our ideas are not in sync but he is very liberal in this regard.
F: What if, tomorrow your boss does not accept your opinion ?
Me: I will try convincing him but..
F: Convincing you boss is tougher than convincing you wife.
(M laughs again)
Me: Mam I will try convincing him but end of the day he is the boss and I will have to accept what he says.
F: That's it, Thank you.
Me: Thank you.
I did not like it, technical questions stumped me.
What do you think puys ?
PS: This is my first hand at writing interview experiences, please spare me in case of any errors :)
CAP WAT PI experience!,

M1: Population of you state?Me: Took a very wrong guess, *laughter*
M3: Tell me what's special about your city?Me: Told them, had some follow up questions answered them well.
M3: Read today's newspaper?Me: Interview was early in the morning (had no idea about that day's news), so didn't get a chance, know about yesterday's news though.
M3: Told me that governor rule is implied in your state yesternight?Me: Was shocked to know, but told them it was a wrong thing to do!
M3: Asked me why and whether I believe it or not?Me: Hard to believe, and told them the reason.
M3: Good!
M2: Thanks a lot for your time!
Don't know about my chances though, no work ex GEM with 97.96 %ile can anyone comment on that?
In interview introduction of CAP, as I told them that I belong to Bihar and studied in Jammu, they asked me for identity proof. I then showed them my PAN card. What does it mean? Did they doubt my identity or thinking me to be a fraud or a terrorist? I couldn't understand the reason. Negative image? 😕
CAP 22/2/2016, Delhi, The Janpath Hotel
2 males, 1 female. All 3 were bengali
M1: So, Mr. Kohli, know anything about Virat
Me: Yes, sir. He's my (interrupted)
F(histerically): OMG another engineer. Does your campus not provide you with placements? "Sab yahi aajate ho"
Me: Told her why I want to do MBA and about my business
F: So if you had to go into business why did you take up engineering in the first place
Me: Told
M1: Tell us more about polki and kundan. Whats the difference?
Me: told(Stuttered a couple of times, sigh)
M1: Whats the difference between precision and accuracy?
Me; Precision is how close you can get to the desired result and accuracy is how many times you get it right out of the total number of times you try to execute a task (Wasn't sure)
M1: Are you sure?
Me: *Resounding yes*
M2: *Acad questions*
Me: partially correct answers
F: Any extra-curriculars?
Me: Football, Cooking
All 3 in unison: Cooking? LOVELY
F: Oh oh tell me the recipe of butter chicken in under 2 minutes
Me: Did it.... Even Eminem would have been impressed
M1: They both love cooking, I love eating
Me: Oh sir then you should definitely Biryani Blues, it's just down the road.
M2: What types of biryanis do they sell? I only like dry biryanis
Talked about types of biryanis, then talked about kolkata biryani house, then talked about why bengalis use a lot of potato while cooking mutton, told them a little about bengali food history.
M1: You should audition for masterchef
Me: wouldn't that be a little hard while doing MBA from an IIM?
(smirks)
And that was that, overall it was an average interview that started out as a stress one with them laughing and acting a little weird but I kept calm and it settled down and was rather fun towards the end
Fresher GEF. At 93.67 cat percentile, no calls from premier institute apart from IMI D n IMT G. There are few others like FORE, KJ SOMAIYA, Tapmi and Glim also. All the above mentioned institute show avg salary in the range of 8-12 lac. But i think every institute has almost 50% experienced students. So will it be fair to consider avg pkg as it appears. Or we can assume that freshers ll get the lowest pkg. May be 5-8 lacs? If so, which institute out of the following ll be good
