Work Ex will be 19 months in July 2021.

Just wanted to know if there is a chance of getting a call from BLACKI , at what percentiles?

Hey people. I need some advice. I have converted IMTG, XIMB BM and have been waitlisted for IIM Shillong (WL 192). I am not completely sure if I can convert IIM Shillong in the subsequent lists. There is no clarity on the last years waitlist movement for IIM Shillong. Should I pay the fee for IMT/XIMB as a backup for now or should I just not accept their admission offers and wait for the subsequent lists of IIMS and the results of other IIMs? I have this query because I have to pay around 6 Lakhs for IMT before June 1st week to confirm my acceptance and I am wary that it might take more than a month for them to refund my payment if I ask for it when I convert something better.

PG DT '20 Announcement:

There is a DT tradition that dictates the creation of a new DT when there are people in the old DT who have been rejected on their best calls and have unequivocally decided to take CAT again, a new DT is created for them, and that is their 'admit' for the season. Unfortuantely, this time has come for DT '19 and we wanted to start out creating a group of people dedicated to nailing the CAT in 2020. In the past few weeks, especially in the past few days, various people have reached out to me about their aspirations for CAT 20. Many of these have performed admirably in CAT 19. DT is meant to be a grouping of these people, a coming together of the minds most likely to break through to the top MBA colleges in this country.

Those of you who performed well in CAT, may even have a few admits but are pressing ahead with CAT 20 for admits to higher echelons and greater opportunities, this opportunity is for you. You will find many people there who have gone through a similar phase in their preparation. There will be people from DT 19 to guide you, many of whom had taken the path you are desirous of taking and many of whom have now achieved their targets.

Primarily, the entry will depend on your scores and what the current DT members think of it. Profile no bar (Otherwise how would I be on DT)! We would prefer if you had a history of score posting on PG so that we can check out your profile and make sure that the CAT day performance was a continuation on solid foundations, or if you had a disastrous CAT your scores can help hold down your candidature even with an average CAT score. If you had no history on PG, but have scored very high in the CAT, we would ask you to take your mocks this season and start score posting. We will be keeping a watch and those with consistent performance and terrific scores will be invited in later.

I would like those of you who fit the criteria to fill their details on this form : https://forms.gle/z2PR67b8mKcvdZix5

Those who are not high scoring need not be disheartened. I was not high scoring at the start of last season either. Consistent performances brought me the attention of @ashwinh who added me to the DT! Just keep posting your scores, grinding it out and you will grow irrespective of where you are. Someone or the other from DT 19 will surely be keeping a watch and when worthy given your activity and seeing your interactions, they will add you in.

You can get a glance of how the DT 19 gang has performed at this post : https://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/cat-2017-18-results-exam-date-notification-pattern-admit-card-information-pagalguy-38717690/65665169122069

There was also an Unofficial Dream Team, which had very kindly invited me to join their group post results, which has also produced mind blowing results. You can read about that here : https://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/cat-2017-18-results-exam-date-notification-pattern-admit-card-information-pagalguy-38717690/65656993633498

For next year, we want to ensure that there is one DT and that we do not miss out on any one and that is why we started early with a public post. However, DT building of course is not a static activity. I myself got added some time after July and some others even after results, mainly because they fit our idea and capabilities so well.

In the PG Dream Team, we have always had seniors from past DT's helping out and that tradition will continue. Many of us will be in the group with you as mentors, guides and people to discuss your CAT journey with. We look forward to the next DT and interacting all the people in it. The most important part of the DT is that it stood for its people. The amount of help people give you on it means we expect that sort of personality, that level of trust and interaction as well. This is the only true necessary requirement. If you are not basically someone who will be happy to help people and share with them, I think DT is a bad idea and you are better off by yourself. We need people who put in more than they take out, to truly build a sum larger than the sum of its parts.

Finally, I leave you with a recommended read to restart your CAT prep in earnest if you are looking for motivation. It is my AIWTSAC, the first of the CAT 2019 season. You can find that post here : https://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/all-i-wanted-to-speak-about-cat-2019-edition-aiwtsac-2019-75948146535137/76224998560802

Hopefully you will read many more from many DT 19 members in the coming weeks. And with a little luck and some hard work, next year PagalGuy will be reading the AIWTSAC's from PagalGuy Dream Team 20.

Is it wise to be spending 20+ lacs on MBA given this economic crisis? Given that i am not doing it from Top colleges like MDI/NITIE/BLACKI/XLRI.

  • No, it’s a risk you might regret.
  • Yes, it’s worth it if it’s a college like SCMHRD/XIMB/IMT

Need some help with this question -

X and Y are stationed at points A and B

respectively. Everyday X and Y start

simultaneously from A and B to reach B and

A respectively. Everyday they cross each

other at a point R. From the point R, the time

taken by X to reach B and the time taken by

Y to reach A is 36s and 16s respectively. One

particular day Y started late and during that

time X had covered 20 km. Find the distance

between the point R and the point where they

met on that day.

(1) 12 km (2) 10 km

(3) 16 km (4) 8 km

Answer is 12km, can someone please explain the approach

RC Practice - 16th May | CAT 2019 Slot 1 Passage 1(Folk) "Free of the taint of manufacture" – that phrase, in particular, is heavily loaded with the ideology of what the Victorian socialist William Morris called the "anti-scrape", or an anticapitalist conservationism (not conservatism) that solaced itself with the vision of a preindustrial golden age. In Britain, folk may often appear a cosy, fossilised form, but when you look more closely, the idea of folk – who has the right to sing it, dance it, invoke it, collect it, belong to it or appropriate it for political or cultural ends – has always been contested territory. . . . In our own time, though, the word "folk" . . . has achieved the rare distinction of occupying fashionable and unfashionable status simultaneously. Just as the effusive floral prints of the radical William Morris now cover genteel sofas, so the revolutionary intentions of many folk historians and revivalists have led to music that is commonly regarded as parochial and conservative. And yet – as newspaper columns periodically rejoice – folk is hip again, influencing artists, clothing and furniture designers, celebrated at music festivals, awards ceremonies and on TV, reissued on countless record labels. Folk is a sonic "shabby chic", containing elements of the uncanny and eerie, as well as an antique veneer, a whiff of Britain's heathen dark ages. The very obscurity and anonymity of folk music's origins open up space for rampant imaginative fancies. . . . Cecil Sharp, who wrote about this subject, believed that folk songs existed in constant transformation, a living example of an art form in a perpetual state of renewal. "One man sings a song, and then others sing it after him, changing what they do not like" is the most concise summary of his conclusions on its origins. He compared each rendition of a ballad to an acorn falling from an oak tree; every subsequent iteration sows the song anew. But there is tension in newness. In the late 1960s, purists were suspicious of folk songs recast in rock idioms. Electrification, however, comes in many forms. For the early-20th-century composers such as Vaughan Williams and Holst, there were thunderbolts of inspiration from oriental mysticism, angular modernism and the body blow of the first world war, as well as input from the rediscovered folk tradition itself. For the second wave of folk revivalists, such as Ewan MacColl and AL Lloyd, starting in the 40s, the vital spark was communism's dream of a post-revolutionary New Jerusalem. For their younger successors in the 60s, who thronged the folk clubs set up by the old guard, the lyrical freedom of Dylan and the unchained melodies of psychedelia created the conditions for folkrock's own golden age, a brief Indian summer that lasted from about 1969 to 1971. . . . Four decades on, even that progressive period has become just one more era ripe for fashionable emulation and pastiche. The idea of a folk tradition being exclusively confined to oral transmission has become a much looser, less severely guarded concept. Recorded music and television, for today's metropolitan generation, are where the equivalent of folk memories are seeded. . . . Q1. The author says that folk “may often appear a cosy, fossilised form” because: Ans: 1. the notion of folk has led to several debates and disagreements. 2. it has been arrogated for various political and cultural purposes. 3. of its nostalgic association with a pre-industrial past. 4. folk is a sonic “shabby chic” with an antique veneer Q.2 At a conference on folk forms, the author of the passage is least likely to agree with which one of the following views? Ans 1. The power of folk resides in its contradictory ability to influence and be influenced by the present while remaining rooted in the past. 2. Folk forms, in their ability to constantly adapt to the changing world, exhibit an unusual poise and homogeneity with each change. 3. Folk forms, despite their archaic origins, remain intellectually relevant in contemporary times. 4. The plurality and democratising impulse of folk forms emanate from the improvisation that its practitioners bring to it. Q.3 The primary purpose of the reference to William Morris and his floral prints is to show: Ans 1. that despite its archaic origins, folk continues to remain a popular tradition. 2. that what was once derided as genteel is now considered revolutionary. 3. that what is once regarded as radical in folk, can later be seen as conformist. 4. the pervasive influence of folk on contemporary art, culture, and fashion Q.4 All of the following are causes for plurality and diversity within the British folk tradition EXCEPT: Ans 1. paradoxically, folk forms are both popular and unpopular. 2. that British folk continues to have traces of pagan influence from the dark ages. 3. that British folk forms can be traced to the remote past of the country. 4. the fluidity of folk forms owing to their history of oral mode of transmission Q.5 Which of the following statements about folk revivalism of the 1940s and 1960s cannot be inferred from the passage? Ans 1. Even though it led to folk-rock’s golden age, it wasn’t entirely free from critique. 2. Electrification of music would not have happened without the influence of rock music. 3. It reinforced Cecil Sharp’s observation about folk’s constant transformation. 4. Freedom and rebellion were popular themes during the second wave of folk revivalism
