Bro.. u can only answer this with the help of the constraints given (if any) or via options... you would need to ascertain whether the hypotenuse is x+1 or y.

Here is my experience of my date with "the CAT"...
First of all, my centre sucked!(KMCT in Kozhikode). The test centre was not AC, and I had the very first seat in the row, so very little light came through. Even the fans were far off... I know bickering about the centre is no good, but still...
1st Section:
Coming to the test, first part was really really bad for me (as usual). Attempted around 12...
Questions from TSD, Geometry, 1 from Numbers, P&C;, Quadratic et al... Work, ratio, number systems, remainders etc were missing. I wasted too much time reading the questions.
1DI was typical, having lot of data (import, export etc). Another was logic based.

Unlikely to clear the cut offs....
2nd section was a smooth sail. Attempted 24 (expecting around 20+ to be correct). The 6 I left were ambiguous to the point of 2 options, so left them alone.
RCs were typical, nothing out of the bag. LA's were moderate, did all questions from LA.
I have trouble with "statement out of context" questions, so left them too. All in all, a great attempt in section 2.
Hoping around 80+ overall score, but QA is gonna f**k my cut offs, sure....

The day was 21st of Oct, Evening slot.
i sat, i logged in and i lost my faith in humanity.
Rewind back to a couple of days prior to C-day, having ended the season of CAT preparation with a 99.xx in simcat and a 29A 28C in the last maths sectional of TIME, i was all set to nail this exam.. come whatever it may!
and then, there i was, sitting in front of the computer wondering why on earth did i slogged my ass through Number system when all that these IIM guys had to ask from me was the unit's digit of 777^777 !
the paper wasn't at all balanced. Biased, i would say... alot biased towards a few selected topics.
