CAT 2012 Kerala study group

For L+B = 2, there is just one value right ?
Ya L=1 and B=1.
Even for L+B= 3 we have only one soln. L=2 and B=1
@pugna @raku1989 @rohan_bhasker @Kevin88 Was there ever a Kochi study group on PG ? How come we have one for the whole state ?
@Ash27Winz Anyway Ash..luks like you & i followed a similar approach..

Two wrong assumptions from my end :

1)Only counted rectangles which were not squares.
2)Made a silly mistake in counting & missed a few cases also.

When l+b
For B=1 ----->128,127............1 ------- 128 Cases.
For B=2 ----->127..................2 ------- 126 Cases.
.
.
.
For B=64 ----->65,64 ------- 2 Cases .

So total Cases =2+.....128 =32*130=4160.

BTW: When's ure slot ?

Goodnight guys.

@Kevin88 Day after tomorrow is our exam
@seetharam7
Well Seetha.. we never had an active presence online (PG) (except last yr )though the numbers are pretty huge in the coaching centres down south !!!

(We had a number of success stories last yr, Joe was part of the team too !!!)

Take the very case of our group this yr.. i think we have had close to 40+ introductions of applicants from Kerala (look at the alarming no of pages in the beginning of the thread) but for some constraint a majority of guyz have not hoped on the bandwagon

But i believe we have done some justice here.. So who cares whether it be a city or a state or a country.. as long as we have a strong team willing to help each other out through the journey known as MBA....

P.S : Think i am kinda high.. will be coming back home tomorrow !!!!
@spdspd : on the DI qn

Q 1) Answer - C ... summation here will take time...for these kinda questions what i do is i divide all the numbers by sum power of 10 in this case by 1000 so that each number is a 4 digit decimal number now. Now summation is relatively easier which comes to around 9.8k+.. approximating it to 10000 we can get answer as C...

Q2) same approach... Answer - B

Q3) this involves a bit of a logic...the candidate with minimum votes who proceed to Round 2 has 1638192 votes...now in Round 2 Votes cast = 1000000. So in order for this guy to pass onto Round 3 with minimum votes... 1st 2 candidates should get 9999997 and 2 votes and the last 2 candidates should get 0 votes such that this guy gets 1 vote. Now in round 3 he should get 1 vote more than 1/3rd of the total = 3 million = 1000001. So sum = 1638192 + 1 + 1000001 = 2638194
@pugna How much time did you take ? How much will you give ? Or a round 3 q with whatever remaining time?
@Kevin88 dez days my speed has reduced considerably due to lack of practice...when i used 2 do bttr in aug and all...i usually try 2 gt them within 8 minutes...when i did it now...it tuk me less than 10 mins i guess...but dats coz i hav done this question before in an unproc...

Bhai log, remember formulas like sin(pi+theta) =? , cos(90+theta)= ? etc . Also which trig func are positive in which quadrant. This is imp.

On a different note, I officially started my preparations for CAT 2013! 😁

All students take cigarette. (Learned it from PC thomas)
1st quadrant - all +ve
2nd quadrant- sine and cosec +ve
3rd quadrant - tan and cot +ve
4th quadrant - cos and sec +ve
@pugna @raku1989 @joethaliath @Kevin88 Do we get a 2min break between the sections just like AIMCATs ?
@seetharam7 : Yes, We do !!

@Kevin88
@seetharam7 It refers to no breaks ( water, loo breaks etc) during sections & after the test has begun...(however that entirely depends on your invigilators)...
There is a 2 min break b/w sections.. but you will not be able to move out of your designated terminals etc.
@seetharam7 all silver tea cups,

116 people participated in a singles tennis tournament of knock out format. The players are paired up in the first round, the winners of the first round are paired up in second round, and so on till the final is played between two players. If after any round, there is odd number of players, one player is given a bye, i.e. he skips that round and plays the next round with the winners. Find the total number of matches played in the tournament.
(a) 115 (b) 53 (c) 232 (d) 116
U may find the question very simple. But most of us may take 1-2 mins in solving this. Anyways give a try and post the answer. I found the soln pretty interesting which can be done without even using a pencil in less than 10 seconds.
@raku1989 😁 yes yes πŸ˜ƒ i also repeated the same thing whn i dd this question , 1991 or 1990 question alle ?

Was like a slap on my face when i went thru the solution, though we get the correct answer

Ya. From 1990 cat paper.
