I would like to show a "oppikkal" yet kinda effective technique(which many of you might be already using). The following question is from CL Unproc 10.
Given below are a few sentences. Each sentence has a pair of words that are italicised. From the italicised words, select the most appropriate words (A or B) to form correct sentences. The sentences are followed by options that indicate the words, which may be selected to correctly complete the set of sentences. From the options given, choose the most appropriate one.
The government is assessing (A) / accessing (B) every aspect of the situation.
The doctor councilled (A) / counseled (B) her to avoid lifting heavy objects.
She has a flair (A) / flare (B) for painting.
The speaker struck a chord (A) /cord (B) with his audience.
Options
a) ABAA
b) ABAB
c) AABB
d) BBAA
If you look at the options , A comes appears as ans for sentence 1 in 3 options, B comes appears as ans for 2nd sentence in 3 options and A comes as answer for sentence 3 in 3 options . So most probably the answer is of form ABA and an unknown 4th. So if you know the correct alternative for 4th sentence you can answer it within seconds.(Here the correct answer is ABAA).
But we have to be careful as it is an "educational or logical" guess and probability of getting it correct all the time is not 100%.
I usually take chances, especially during the last 5 mins or so and mark 1-2 questions like these. Fortunately I have got them right most of the time.
@joethaliath Thanks man. But a seeing a score of 32 in sect 2 less than month before CAT isn't exactly good. I am sure i got 9 LR questions correct, which means VA 19A 6C 13W. I am analyzing the sect 2 of the previous Aimcats right now.
Can you guys tell in what sequence you attempt questions in section 2 . I mean, RC first followed by LR sets and so on ? Or some other way ? What is the best way according to you?
Anyways, I have tried various method and the sequence I felt most comfortable with was RC first, LR second and all others later, serially(Be it PJ or para completion) . Since I hate RCs( being too lazy to read) If I keep it for the end, I will just read it like a zombie-without energy and concentration. So I prefer to finish it off first.
@spdspd Dude, i just mentioned that i suck at sect 2. Anyways, i usually follow this order :
VA-LR-RC...first 15 mins for VA..then next 25-30 for LR and final 25-30 min for RC. The reason is simple. After sect 1, need to relax, so i go for the verbal. Then LR is my strong point, so i spent max time on it and get all correct. RCs are always tough for me.
@spdspd Jagan, even i generally try & follow the same strategy as seetharam. However, i tend to change based on the difficulty of the paper & my mindset at the time.
@Kevin88 Ok I didn't get the question correctly. Whether its distinct digits or not. Please post the solution if you can and explain how you solved ash27winz' question
