and its not duo..the duo model comes for rs 58000...

well nothin can come close to Apple laptops ... best in the market out there ... prices also not that high , but since ur b school wants a particular type , i say go for acer or dell ... good support systems and comparitively cheaper ... but nothin can beat a i book or a powerbook :)

i book and power books are cheaper as they are being phased out. Apple is shifting to intel based processor and macbook, macbook pro are still way outta budget.. But yes, nothing like an apple laptop!! and it supports windows too.

Anybody around here owns one of these , the recently launched Core 2 Duo driven Macbook. Been a long time Mac fan and finally wanna succumb to the tempation of owning a good Mac Have read some rave reviews of the Macbook Line....Was initially looking at the Pro, but dropped out coz am not sure the add-ons merit the huge price differential...Am looking to soup up the white macbook with a few add-ons....Any opinions from anyone that knows these?

I have certain Issues with Apple Mac ...
(note : I also want to buy a mac but these r things I am skeptical about)

what is Apple's version of Office and how similar is it to MS office suite?
Can a MAC be attached to a projector , like other MS ke pcs? In my coll , there was an NRI who came with a MAC but could not do presentation due to compatibility issues .
How to run the Cablenet installation on a MAC?
Also can other OSs be installed on MAC , after completely cleaning the disc?

Sorry for bugging , but i guess this is important for many mac enthusiasts

The best place to get the information about laptops is
Notebook and Laptop Reviews and also CNET - Technology product reviews, price comparisons, tech video, and more .
Cnet is a common website for all the electronic items and they do have video demo of some of the laptops.

The problem i find with MacBook is
The 15.4 inch version is damn costly even in US it is more than 2000 dollars, the 13.3 inch version looks good but as it is a apple product; you will have to buy a lot of stuff from them.

Anyways the above mentioned site gives a lot of information about them.

Usability wise the order i would go for is "HP" , "Dell", "Acer". But if you are ready to shell out some extra money then nothing beats "Sony".
Dell in US in pretty cheap, u get good configuration for less than 1000 dollars. So oif you have some friends in US, it is better to get it from here.

I hav IBM ThinkPad R Series..Its Simply Awesome !
My roommate has Apple MacBook...its very light...makes a lot of sound though. IBM doesnt make any sound. My other roommate has Gateway...tablet PC..pretty decent it is. My last roomie has Dell. Which is also not bad ~!!! :biggrin:
As long as u dont hav problem with the name its fine. 😃

any1 know abt ACI ETHOS laptop....its for 20,000...unbelieveable....specs are good too.

i know one should rather go for a better specs and brand bt thn thts the trade off....money is a factor too.am using a dell bt thinking of recommending my frnd who is a cash strained to go for this model as its value for money.

SPJAIN has put 3 brands on offer

1. Hp-Compaq
2. IBM
3. Toshiba.

There's no doubt that Toshiba offer is the coolest one. Let me tell you brief history.

In year 2002 SPJIMR offered only Toshiba
In year 2003 SPJIMR offered both Toshiba and IBM
This year they are offering 3 brands. So Toshiba is well tested by guys at SP. now one of my friends at SP told that TOSHIBA is not very sturdy, it has battery problems. He told due to excess usage even IBM batteries gets worn out; however the incidence is higher in Toshiba.

Hence Toshiba ruled out for me. IBM ruled out since Compaq offers IEEE port, PCMCIA port which i am assuming missing in IBM (since they haven't specified). Also Compaq has JBL speakers.JBL is leader in sound technology. Further Compaq has 5 hrs battery backup.

The only thing i am missing out is DVD, which i would get upgraded after some time. DVD is not so popular in India, it's required if you travel abroad. In India you can do without DVD.

hey b4 one can answer ur queries u ppl need to b more specific as to wat u r looking for in a laptop. i being a hardcore gamer my prefrences will b different than some one who needs a laptop for running MS OFFICE. without knowing the scope of usage its really hard to take a stand on as to which laptop is better.

hello...im looking to buy a laptop with a budget of around 50k.. is it the right time to do so ? or should i wait for a few months (ive heard tat companies offer disconts during summers )...also can anyone suggest some models....thanks
