Buying A Laptop

TABLET PC's !!!!

well yah but the worst part about em is that every damn thing is external
let it be dvd drives or floppy drives or whtvr
so when u go to ur class instead of having a compact package wid ya...

u'll hv a sleek nd sexy tablet pc .... wid loadsa peripherals hanging in ur backpacks
lol so its not really practical ...... believe me i was one step away from buyin me a tablet pc 😁 chose a TOSHIBA SATELLITE M30/M35 series..... my 4th lappy till date and the best one till now.... screen is reallllly weird shape wise...ovalish rectangly... but thts wht makes it soo hot :D

dunn go for tablet pc's tough to handle...expensive... becomes more of a show off material rather than a utility equipment.

Cheers

Don't spend your money on a tablet, unless it's somebody else's money  But if its your own moola, get someting tats more economical and useful. i saved up for a couple of years and managed to get myself a toshiba A10- S703. . I am totally in love with it. It's called Lucifer Max. If you are interested in knowing da specifications let me know.

Regards
DJK 😁

My answer to this would be check the specs of the following Tablet PC which is packed with all the goodies:

My bet is that a tablet pc is what anyone needs at a B-school.

In any class you wouldn't like to type the notes or other stuff and with a tablet PC you wouldn't need to keep scores of lose sheets or notebooks or pads around.

I was totally fascinated with the Acer model that my cousin is going to buy for his B-school, and sure will I, next year.

Sure it costs well over any economical laptop by around Rs 30,000 but if 5 or 6 of you intend to buy it together as a deal, you may get a good Tablet PC for under Rs. 80,000

I am in need of a little enligtenment. No, I am not being sarcastic, I am genuinely in doubt. Isn't everyone in a B School supposed to have their personal Laptops? Can you actually pool in money and buy one for 5 or 6 people together?

Ofcourse u can pool in money wid a bunch of pals and buy laptops at a discounted rate

but still it depends to which college ur going to....
u might need to suit ur system requirements as per the b skool

or some skools make it compulsory for students to buy laptops from them...i guess xlri is one of em not sure tho... !! even in tht case since its a bulk order the prices comes down quite a bit....

nitie hostel rooms to my knowledge are equipped wid desktop pc's...will check up nd let ya guys kno...if thts the case then carrying a lappy to nitie becomes redundant..

so finally its comes to ur ease of use and second b schools requirement tht go into buyin a lappy

as far as makes are concenred i wud seriously vouch for Toshiba !!

cheers

Yeah! Cheers to Toshiba!

Laptops r not compulsory at XLRI. 😃 The insti offers to buy lappys in bulk for d students, but one can get along his/her own lappy/desktop.

Cheez...Man! You don't seem to understand things easily...what i meant was 4-5 people getting together and buying 4-5 laptops of the same make & model and from the same supplier. In this case I was talking about Tablet Pcs
Hmmmm...Will be very elaborate in my future messages about every single thing.
See in which direction a wrong interpretation takes the row of messages/replies thereafter.

Hey Guys!

Laptops are compulsory $ us at GIM too....These guys r negotiating with IBM 4 Centrino At somewhere around 50000/-

We get the configration only when we sent the confirmation!

Keep me posted on this one! 😃

im one of those ppl whos more excited abt the laptop than abt going to the B-school!!!
MICA says the config has to be Centrino or Mac G4( out,cos i cant operate that OS).
And i need a CD player. So, can i get that for 50-65000? just checked out the IBM prices and god, they r scary!!
any suggestions for this technologically clueless person?

Chill out man!

As far as the tablet PCs availability for less than 80k I sure have a friend who has bought it with P3 configuration at that price (slightly older model) a month back.

I have already given a link and kindly do the effort to look around at that site for pc of ur choice and get an international shipment for it which varies between $40-80.

Help!...sure I would go out of the way to help any of my fella PGites but me never said about availability at a price of 80k for a single Tablet PC (i mentioned 5-6 of them under bulk purchase ) and I am not a seller of it so do some checking yaar at Nehru Place and am sure you'll find out something.

In case you do come up with a Tablet PC at 80K then I too would like to get one but I would like to have a centrino based Tablet-PC.

Take a chill pill Yaar

hey abhi,

not a query about laptops ... its rather about about international shipments ! .. all the sites that ship internationally say that the any duties in the home country are to be borne by the customer.

do u have any idea about the import duties and stuff ?? and how does one pay em when ur equipment is coming via a courier

help urgently needed about import duties and stuff and buying electronic stuff online from merchants who ship internationally !!
Garuda Says
As Maverick had said, my choice would be the Toshiba Satellite P25-S607 . A friend of mine bought it recently and it absolutely rocks. Nice specs and an even nicer price tag

could you please enlighten for how much didya friend get it for ?

Relax dOoD... In delhi there is a special customs clearance cell for imports by individuals and then there are agents who charge anywhere between Rs.1000 - 2% of the items value in Mahipalpur...Besides duty on laptops is around 25% (not too sure )... Gimme sometime...say till tuesday to check it out how a laptop can be imported and other stuff  ... if you interested in a Tablet-Laptop then do lemme know coz i too am on a lookout for one and probably we can get a single model from the same vendor thus saving arnd $50-80 on shipment and probably further in customs clearanace or as online discounts :
