In actual terms 1 GB = 1024 MB.1MB = 1024 KB,1KB = 1024 Bytes
But in hard drives I GB is equal to 1000 MB
So for a 500 GB HDD its 500*1000*1000*1000 = 500000000000 Bytes .. When you divide this value by 1024 by 3 times you will get 465.66 GB
And in some laptops 15 GB is given for the recovery partiton. So u get approx 450 GB in a 500 GB hard drive.
Hope this solves the confusion of many here.

There are lots of laptops in this range. What screen size do you prefer? Do you play games? Does weight matter? Answering these questions will help us narrow down the choices 😃

I am planning to buy a laptop at around 30k range. Screen size of 14in will do and processor i3/i5. Which one will be the best in this range? i am looking for Sony/dell/toshiba only.

17 inches? 😲 There are no laptops in that range for 17 inches. The cheapest 17 inch laptop near your range is Asus K series 73SV(54k). If you are ok with 15.6 inches, I can suggest you more...

This configuration is more than enough for MBA. If your laptop is still under warranty period, get the battery replaced. Have seen may people using this laptop having serious battery problems. Replacing the battery would be enough. You don't have to buy a new laptop for this 😃

2 Gb DDR 3 RAM

hi Puys,
Wanted to clarify 1 thing from the tech savvy junta..
I have a HP pavilion dv 5 series laptop with Vista basic.. I want to upgrade it to Windows 7 professional..
What are the options?
If I somehow get the CD and install it will all the drivers work perfectly?
Sometimes it expires after 1 month or something.. How do i ensure that it runs perfectly even if I install a hacked version (Can it be downloaded via torrents with the access codes)?

Better buy a genuine version 😃 In that way, you don't have to worry about those messages which pop-up everyday.
