Even if the institutions offering those degrees don't have a problem with it, I'd still say it's not a good idea.

A good, rigorous MBA degree would require your full undivided attention.

If you are able to manage a job and 2 degrees at the same time, then the utility of those degrees is suspect.

not 2 degrees with a job...i meant to say...i'll b appearing for mba entrance exams this year and with that i'l be going for m.a. eco (at my place its not a regular course or u can say "private" mode not a regular student.)
then next year i'l b leving my job and will join mba 1st year and at the same time i'l be in M.A 2nd year....but not in job..THANK YOU

then next year i'l b leving my job and will join mba 1st year and at the same time i'l be in M.A 2nd year....but not in job..THANK YOU

I think what Sameer is trying to tell you is that with a full-time MBA program, you won't have time to study for the MA degree. Additionally, the MBA degree will carry more weight than the MA hence it's in your best interests to perform better in the MBA program than in the "private MA" program.

@Arun Sir

Sir I have completed 2.4 years or work today ,TAS would be my last attempt next January so I ll appear in GMAT I have no plans of MBA outside India as average fees is around 75 lacs

Considering TAS and Indian Ex-Mba's if I appear GMAT in 2013-Jan , will it be good to apply for Ex MBA's in the year 2015?

Considering my work ex would be 5.4 yrs dat time

PS:And Remember I am I.I.M :P:banghead:

Hi Consultant,

Got admit from 2 universities. Please let me know the pros and cons and also your esteemed advice

International University of japan, MBA... Got Scholarship - full tution fee wavied off !
HHL Leipzig Germany, MBA - No scholarship :(

Following is my profile:

Work exp - TCS - supply chain domain - client i2 technlogies - 3.5 years - QA
JDA (formally i2 technologies) - 6 months (current employer) - QA

GMAT 600
B.tech 70% (Chemical engg. VIT vellore).

Thanks,
Sriananth H

Sriananth,

Congratulations on your two admits. I would say your selection criteria should be based on your post MBA recruitablility (assuming that you have already determined your fit at both b-schools at the time of applying).

Both institutes have a huge location difference - which of the two locations makes more sense, based on your career goals?

Which institute will offer your more opportunities for electives, internships, Clubs, networking with your preferred industry and final job placements based on your career goals?

If you are keen on joining particular companies, do they recruit at either one of these ?

Finally, both are regional schools. What will the language and cultural implications (any language requirement before graduating?) be and how can you best adjust to either of them?

Consider the scholarship waiver after you have more clarity over these issues.

helloz
I am a 3rd year mechanical engineering student from IIT. Really confused b/w gmat and cat.
10th and 12th percent above 90
cgpa will most probably end up approx 8

I want to go abroad and I know that I'l get a high gmat score but dont know about the work-ex required for top b schools as I will have 0 of it .
I also dont know about the fees and scholarships of b schools outside India.
How are the scholarships given?

so finally what do u guide cat or gmat..?

Note: Am not a Consultant, so take advice below with grain of salt.

Don't undersell yourself by applying to a top U.S. B school now, without work-ex. Aim to get a good on-campus job offer in 4th year - that's your potential ticket to a top 5 U.S. B school. Sure, get GMAT out of the way in 4th year, and if needed hedge the final year job offer with CAT and IIM calls.

Don't forget to have fun in final year though. Good luck.

Sure. But would you want to give up the chance to attend a top 5 global B school? Realize that without relevant work experience there's only a negligible chance of getting in (even with an 800 GMAT). Alternatives for you would be to try and secure a U.S. job from campus recruiting or aiming for a quick MS at a good U.S. University and making the transition that way.

Makes sense. So prep well for CAT and see what gives. Like I said, hedge IIM ABC vs. a good job that puts you on track for a profile that can land you in a top 5 B school in 3-4 years.

Once you have the options in hand, make a more informed decision. Happy to brainstorm offline if needed.

Hi Sudhir, welcome to PG and I am glad to take up your first post :)

So you already have 4 years of work exp. post MBA - wanting another MBA at this stage sounds reasonable.

While a few US b-schools have a strict policy against the 2nd MBA, most of them do not. But you will still have to explain why you want another MBA degree and how it fits into your future career plans. Saying that you want it to gain 'Exposure' will not suffice; you can get exposure at work as well. You will need to go further into why it is necessity for you to grow further.

Your entrepreneurial efforts sound interesting. If you want to get into entrepreneurship post MBA, make sure you connect different pieces of your story well - your career history, the consulting company, common skills between both, the MBA and future career plans.

Its hard for me to comment on suitable b-schools for you with the limited information you have provided here. Start by looking at b-schools' websites (Refer to Business week rankings) to get a first hand feel yourself.

Hope that helps

My advice is to aim for the most prestigious names that recruit for summer internships on campus - without necessarily distinguishing between a tech role or a non-tech role. Of course, if you have the option, a management-oriented role would be better, but at this stage of your career/education, don't stress about that. The goal is to bullet-proof your resume with stellar brands. This experience is not going to be very useful/relevant when you apply to B school eventually (after work-ex), but will be relevant when you do your full time job interviews in final year and/or your IIM ABC interviews, and explain to the panel how you were able to get through a highly selective recruiting process. For IIMs, explain in the context of how this is in line with your goal for leadership/management roles at some of the most prestigious firms going forward.

Also, am not yet very familiar with thread protocols around here. Apologies if I'm responding to queries on threads I shouldn't be yakking on. Mods or others feel free to let me know.

Dear Consultant!

How does one decide which (if at all) foreign university to go for the student exchange program? Also, what are the parameters needed to judge a foreign university for applying to its MBA program subsequent to giving GMAT?

of course you'll be. what you scored in your B.E. or 12th is not going to matter much now.

Hi,

I want to point out that taking GMAT is not equivalent to applying to b-schools. GMAT scores are valid for 5 years, (although some universities may require a more recent score -check individual b-school requirements).

Therefore if you think you want to take the GMAT now and apply in the next 1-2 years, its alright to do so.

As there is nothing you can do about your academic scores, try to get a stellar GMAT score- about 20-30 points above your target school's average GMAT scores.

As your work experience is on the lower side, you can wait for another 1-2 years before you apply. This will help you to strengthen your work profile, get involved in some extra curricular activities; get better understanding of your career objectives and the need for an MBA.
