My profile, BE in computers from Mumbai university 22 months experience in TCS Currently doing MBA from Mumbai university tier-2 Bschool (2011-2013 batch) Is my profile eligible for the above mentioned course?
Hi Aniket,
You'll need to explain why you want an MFE degree on the heels of an MBA degree. The average work experience for MFE courses is close to 3.5 years (though not a requirement). Therefore, in my opinion, you can wait for another year, get some more work experience and then apply.
what is the probability of my selection? How much score is necessary in GRE or GMAT ?
I guess, nobody can tell you this probabbility. Selection to MFE is pretty intense as they have small classes and a lot of people apply. You would have to put together a strong application to be considered. And demonstrating your analytical/ quantitative focus would be a must.
Since MFE is a quant heavy course, you would need to excel in the quant sections of GMAT/GRE -try to score around the 90th percentile.
Are there any other option for doing financial engineering ? (mainly US)
Questions: I am in a state of dilemma what option to pursue. I completed my BTech in 2010 with decent acdemics and good hold of technical knowledge. I appeared for GATE in my final year and secured 97 percentile, but didn't go for admission because of need for IIT's and that too in a good stream. Later on joined an IT company and recently gave CAT which resulted in low score bagging final calls as TAPMI (W/L) and IMI Bhubhaneshwar. Actually what my interest is join a field which is a blend of technology(computer science) and management so that neither my technical field is withdrawn and also complete a management degree.
Please guide which will be the best career options for me to pursue and from where. I shall be highly obliged if you do so.
I am supposed to apply for universities in Singapore like JCU, EASB, MDIS but now I think I should try give GMAT but my consultant says, I don't have enough percentage in my grad (69%) to get a good college even if I'll get good score in GMAT. So what should I do???
Currently working in TCS as assistant systems engineer since Mar'2011. No outstanding extra-curricular. Except a minor few stints in college. Only good point is probably is being associated with a NGO since 2011.
Will be completing two years at TCS in Mar'2013.
Planning to give my GMAT this august'2012 to apply in the first round of colleges, for class of 2013.
What are my chances in getting through to a good college with a score around 700??
Could you please suggest a few colleges where I would have a chance in getting an admission??
I am a bit new to the GMAT procedures so would require a detailed explanation.. Sorry for the trouble..
I want to do my MBA from US and work there. But I some how feel that I'm still not mature for an MBA where the class profile consists of people from different domains and have strong industry knowledge.I somehow feel that I wont be able to contribute to the class even after working for almost 3 years as my learning opportunities were meager these 3 years. And I really don't see any value addition staying in my current role.I want to do my MBA in marketing as soon as possible and want a career shift.
Could you please advice me on if I should go for it now or wait for an year which will do no good/difference to my profile.

Hi, I am not aware of the programs you have mentioned here. But generally speaking, b-schools consider many factors like GPA/ GMAT/ Professional qualifications/ extra curricular interests while evaluating your application. GMAT is just one part of the application, its not the whole. Thereofore your chances of admission should not suffer at b-schools if you have an otherwise strong profile.
You should try talking to students/ admissions team to understand the academic requirements of these b-schools. Looking at their FAQs section is another starting point.

Hi, Firstly if you are applying to b-schools abroad, your 10th/12th grade marks do not count. As your undergrad marks are not very high, you must try to score above 700 to demonstrate your academic capabilities.

As you are starting early, do your research about b-schools from now. Read through b-school websites, blogs, chats etc. and list down what aspects of the programs fit with your learning needs. There is no short route to this, you will have to familiarize yourself with various programs.

B-schools have varying criteria for admitting candidates. While the higher ranked ones will evaluate a good career progression and managerial responsibilities more strictly, some others may grant you admission even if you don't have managerial experience. However, I would suggest that before jumping in the bandwagon, you work for a couple of more years, build your professional profile and then apply for an MBA. More exposure at work will help you determine what you want to do in life and therefore articulate your career ambitions better.
Continue your involvement with the NGO as you can also talk about leadership responsibilities outside work, in your application.
I am a bit new to the GMAT procedures so would require a detailed explanation..
Your GMAT scores are valid for upto years. So if you do take your exam this year and score well, you do not need to think about it again, if you apply 2 years later. In case you do not score well, you can retake it before applying and submit your best score.

Hi Jayachandran,
A few pointers here: 1. if you feel you are not ready for an MBA, you probably aren't. And this will begin to reflect in your applications, if you apply now. So think about doing the MBA when you feel a need for it.
2. Typically in US b-schools, an MBA class has an average work experience of 4 or more years. So with your work experience (low on quantity and managerial responsibilities), you may not be able to contribute much to the class at this stage. And teh admissions teams don't like that.
3. You must ask yourself why you want to move into marketing/ specialize in marketing during the MBA. Its very important to chalk out your future career path and determine the need for an MBA.

Dear Sir,
I am a Chemical Engineer and right now i am working in a top Pharma Company,I am having a work ex of 2.5 years.I am planning to appear for Gmat Exams this year.kindly give me basic guidelines that i am supposed to follow n also let me know about the study material that i should refer.
I am here for obvious reasons. I am aiming to enroll for an MBA next year.
My profile: Class X: 92% Class XII: 85% Dual Degree (Integrated BTech and MTech) from IIT Graduated in 2009, CGPA: 8.6/10 Working in R&D; of a major steel company for almost 3 years now Extra curricular: Primarily sports, actively involved during college, somewhat limited now (not nil, though) GMAT: not yet taken
My current profile is that of research but I aim to move into a General Management/Strategic Planning type of profile now. In my current profile there are limited opportunities to be display great leadership potential as a part of job is to carry out fundamental/academic research. However, I feel I have done reasonably well and have some good results to show.
Request you to evaluate my profile. Is R&D; experience any hindrance for MBA? I am targeting ISB, and some other Asian B Schools. Are there any specific colleges that you recommend for my desired profile? Is it imperative to have more extra-acads e.g. NGO exp etc. for a good MBA admit?
I will be glad if you can reply on this! what are the Job profile options available after doing MS in computer science from usa and how are twinning programs(1year in india and 2 nd year in usa) treated in usa?
Respected Sir, My profile is as follow - 10th -75.76 Diploma in Computer Technology - 63.52 BE Comp Sci - 58.50 Paper Presentation & some Extra Curriculum activities certificates.
Now I'm going for MBA. My problem is that I still couldn't decide about Specializations.Surely, I want to stay with IT domain but for that which specialization would be more helpful? I'm thinking about Operations or Finance. Also,as I heard from some of my friends,Finance is tough for Engineering students. Is it so?
I am working in sales and marketing field in a manufacturing company and have around 5 years of experience for the same. I have already done a MBA from teir-2 college here in India. Now I wish to enhance my career by further educating myself abroad. My undergraduate percentage in mech engg. is just 55%. I have below doubts:
1) Should I go for second MBA or specialization?
2) Does my undergraduate percentage will hinder my chances of getting a admission in a good MBA college abroad?
3) Because of my poor undergraduate score. Should I only try to look for second rated b-schools abroad.
hello, i want to know "can we pursue two masters at a time" i.e. can i enroll for M.A. economics (not a regular course) this year along with my job and then join MBA (in india) next year..M.A. in economics + MBA (HR) is a sensible combiantion ?? please guide.THANKS
p.s.--sorry if i violated any rule by posting my query here..

Hi,
I think any quality work experience, where you made an impact on your organization/ to yourself is valuable in an MBA class. But you need to communicate this through the application.
So basically, your essays should showcase progress in career, well defined career goals (where a lot of applicants falter) and a definate need to do an MBA from that particular b-school, in order to achieve them.
If you can get these aspects right, then your profile is as competitive as anyone else's.
Its always good to have diversity in your profile, which comes through involvement in extra curricular/ volunteering activities. These give you a chance to demonstrate leadership outside work, which is specially beneficial if you do not get many leadership responsibilities at work.
The good thing is that you already have something going on that front - you can up your involvement with what you already have.
This decision will depend on what your career goals are. If you want to stay in manufacturing, then you may want to enhance your skills within that industry, by say, doing an Operations management specialization.
Many people do an MBA to change their career tracks. A lot of them want an overall business perspective through the general management focus of the MBA.
The first step for you should be to understand what you want to do careerwise, 5-10 years from today and how will the 2nd MBA help you get there. Once you figure this out, you would have better clarity on whether you need specialization or a general management degree.
2) Does my undergraduate percentage will hinder my chances of getting a admission in a good MBA college abroad?
3) Because of my poor undergraduate score. Should I only try to look for second rated b-schools abroad.
B-schools evaluate you on a set of criteria, Undergrad GPA being one of them. Therefore while it is only one element in the evaluation process, yet it is very much there.
I would suggest you to go through the GPA ranges of the class (available in the class profile section of most schools' websites) for the b-schools that interest you and see if your scores fit into that range.
Ofcourse, there are other criteria involved in b-school selection as well, but get started with familiarizing yourself with these commonly available stats.
10th(2006) - 87%(state board) 12th(200 - 63% (state board) B.Tech(2008-2012) - 7.7/10 cgpa (NIT Warangal) I am a final year student and I was placed as management trainee in thyssenkrupp. I want to answer CAT this year(2012). As you can see my 12th marks are very low as is my cgpa so if i get a percentile score of say 98 to 100, will i get calls from any of the top 6 iim's now that importance is given to 10th,12th and college scores? Will it help my case if i get a work experience of 2 years in thyssenkrupp? If no, then is it possible to get a call from other B-Schools like XLRI, FMS, SPJIMR, MDI, IIFT by answering their respective exams?
If neither of the above then, what are the chances of getting B-schools in USA(rank Thank you in advance.
Here goes my acads Xth 89.6 Xiith 94.1 BE (EEE) 78.4 Work ex with L&T; 22 months
My season this year is over with a XIMB WL which is likely to convert. Had XLRI BM call. Didnt get through after what i thought was my best PI this season.Dont know what went wrong. Very disappointed after XL result :(
Now i am left with two options - XIMB this year or another try next year. I felt this year my CAT score(93) did not do justice to my ability as i have never scored below 95 in mocks and also my XAT score (99.77) is indication of that.
At the same time with CAT being so unpredictable i am worried what if the same happens next year too.Plus already i have 2 yr work ex with L&T; and will have 3 by the time i give CAT next yr . Also my current job is pretty boring and i am clear i want to quit by july ( my 2 yr bond ends then) . trying for market research n consulting jobs
Also thinking of gmat. Too many thoughts disturbing a troubled mind :|
Pls suggest me ur views. I know its A personal.choice but would.like to get as many views as.possible

Even if the institutions offering those degrees don't have a problem with it, I'd still say it's not a good idea.
A good, rigorous MBA degree would require your full undivided attention.
If you are able to manage a job and 2 degrees at the same time, then the utility of those degrees is suspect.
