Ask a Consultant! - GMAT/GRE Only

Hello. I want to start prep for Spring 2017 for GRE. How should I enter into the 'world of GRE prep'? I mean should I first give the ets mock? And what are the important books I should buy? Thanks

Dear Puys,

Mine is a typical Indian, IT male profile from an over represented pool. My career has plateaued heavily since last 2-3 years and am now in cross roads. Ever since childhood, I had been drawn to automobiles. So much so that in 2006, I managed to convince Mr. Jagadish Khattar then MD of MUL, to get me interviewed and went to Gurgaon. Have sent push application to almost every OEM and the big 4, but to no avail. Am very interested to get into this sector in a strategist, consultant or advisory role but have been dinged due to no relevant experience. I am confident though, to soar much higher than what I am doing now, if an OEM bets on me. My focus areas are Consumer preferences, effects of brands, success strategy.

Career stats:

86% in X, 76% in Xii, 61%in B-Tech (NIT Allahabad, '04 passout). 11 years of experience, entirely into IT Infrastucture services, sort of administration profile. Worked with HP, IBM and Infosys in the past, now with TCS. My debut GMAT, taken on Dec 15, bombed (570, Q46, V23)! Married, with a 2 year girl child, outstanding home loan of 24 lacs.

EC activities:

Organised and twice bagged 2nd prizes in national level Auto Quizzes, during College days. Event drew participants from IIM Lucknow, IIIT Allahabad and IIT Kanpur. Help prospective buyers, to decide on models and makes, based on requirements. Very less community activities.

I guess US programmes are averse to take fellows like me due to demographic reasons, age etc. UK colleges are also ruled out, due to VISA restrictions, so are Executive courses which focus chiefly on leadership development and am trying to change both my industry as well as role. So what are my options. Yes, IMD is a very good option but they are sooper selective too with only 90 seats on offer. I am very keen to work a good amount of time overseas especially in Europe.

Please pour in your suggestions. Anshul, Mansie, Sameer help needed.

regards,

Abhishek

Hi everyone. I am working in banking industry and i am in a dilemma whether to go for CFA or GMAT.

I thought you guys could help me because i don't know much about GMAT. I have a few questions about GMAT

1. Time for Preparation for both GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS

2. What score is a good score

3. Which colleges can i get through GMAT in India (I know there is a long list but at least good ones with scores)

4. Can i get a list of colleges country wise who accept GMAT scores (which are the good ones and how much marks do i have to score for them)

5. What will be the approx fees and living expenses for two years program abroad (country wise).

6. apart from 20L loan which we can get from Bank is there any other way to get sponsors/scholorship to cover the remaining amount. If yes, upto what percent ?

7. What is the recruiting procedure after completing my degree.

I know that's a lot information i have asked for but you are the only people who can help me right now as the last date to apply for CFA is fast approaching.

Someone on the forum asked about what are accomplishments and role they play in MBA admissions- Here's my point of view. 'like' if you like it. Thanks

Accomplishments are great indicators of your good work at workplace or outside of work, may be within your family, organization or community that you keep close with. Accomplishment brings along credibility, recognition and rewards. Recognition help provide strong evidence of what you are capable of bringing to the table, be it next job opportunity or new role within the same organization or even if this a matter of getting in to a MBA school. Based on your accomplishments, admissions officers will derive what unique you can bring to the table in an MBA setting, where you are expected to discuss openly about issues, sometimes quite sensitive and how's your view different and unique from others. So working on writing down your accomplishments will help you go a long way with the MBA admissions process.

After going through a lot of posts on various threads on pagalguy as well as other forums i find that the most important thing to crack any leading business school is CLEAR FUTURE GOALS AND CAREER PATH. So no matter what ur acads were or which coll u went for grad, the most imp question would be WHY MBA. If u can satisfy this aspect u stand a fair chance. Yes good gmat score n other things would be like icing on the cake. ALL THE BEST PUYS AND PIRLS

Hi Sir/Maam,

I need your guidance on how to build my profile for ISB class of 2018. I am aiming scholarships as well and hence would apply in the first round this year itself.

10th: 83.9% , 12th: 80.2% (ICSE board), B.Tech(CSE): 74.4%

Work Ex: will complete 2 years as a Systems engineer in IT this year in July. (Planning to quit the current job and taking up something related to marketing and sales, something non-technical). By march 2017 I should have 2 years 9 months of work experience

Co-curricular activities: 1. Very active in school. Represented the school in inter-school debates.

2. Part of the editorial board and thereby became the student editor in 12th standard.

3. Part of the prefect body, organized events.

4. Participated in a few quiz, dance and essay competitions as well. Won most of them

5. Partcipated and won a few essay writing competitions in college.

6. Organized a few events as well as hosted them in school as well as college.

I was aiming CAT since the past 3 years and upon failure have recently shifted my focus to a 1 year MBA. I had dropped a year after 12th to prepare for engineering exams and hence it has become all the more imperative for me to not waste anymore time and pursue an MBA ASAP. I hadn't thought about preparing for GMAT until a while back and hence would really appreciate your guidance on the same.

How should I begin preparing for GMAT? What score should I target? How should I build my profile further? Please help.

I need to understand, if my profile is even remotely suitable for ISB. If not, what else should I add in my profile?

Also, when do you recommend me appearing for GMAT.

Thanks.
