Hi

I have started preparing for GMAT and would like to appear in the month of June/July. I need your advice regarding some of my queries
I would like to introduce my profile first, so that it could help you in addressing my queries
Class 10- 84%, Class 12- 79.6and B. Tech (NSIT DELHI)- 63.56% in Instrumentation & Control.
Work Ex- 3.5Yrs (CITY GAS DISTRIBUTION COMPANY- IGL)
Job Profile- Deputy Manager (operation & maintenance)
Current Responsibilities-
1) Maintenance planning and Execution
2) Planning, executing and monitoring Improvement projects.
3) Responsible for implementing Asset Management framework in the organization for Asset Optimization (Closely related to Reliability Engineering)
4) Participates in the technical audits and follow up for Compliance

So my queries are

1)According to my profile/work ex, which MBA specialization would suit me for my career growth.

2)How much minimum score should I target in GMAT to get short listed in Indian Colleges and for studying abroad

3) I cannot go for a classroom coaching due to location constraints, so kindly suggest me some online preparation course.

4) If i go for a self study mode of preparation, what are the resources needed for that? Resources refers to here are Books/study materials/ online course contents? Kindly mention the name

Hi,

Profile-

10th-81-2006

12th-60-2008

B.Tech( Electronics, Non IIT/NIT) - 6.3/10-2012

Work Exp- Infosys(since Apr 2013, 33 months cont.). Earned several awards relating to work during this period.

Extra Curricular- Represented states team in basketball, Captained college and corporate team.

As I stated my preparation late(mid Nov) to pursue for MBA I was only able to appear in XAT and SNAP. I am scoring around 23 in XAT and scored 88 %le in SNAP. I have a domicile quota for XIMB.

1. When should I take GMAT for admission into any good colleges(India/abroad)  in 2016 ? If possible.

2. Given my score and profile, if I get an admission to GLIM/KJ/TAPMI/MICA/XIMB/IMT, would it be wise to join the college or to wait for another year and try better in GMAT/CAT/XAT ? I am confused because a lot of people have been saying that 3+ yrs of work exp is a turn off for indian colleges while going for a 2-yr PGP.

3. Does foreign colleges also show lack of interest towards candidates with 3+ work exp ?

4. As I have poor grades in 12th and BTech, how bad are my chances to get into good colleges(India/abroad) through GMAT?

Thanks a lot.

What would you rather choose for MBA admissions to USA?

  • Tactical approaches that sounds great but deliver a mediocre results
  • I can do by myself
  • Quick tips for MBA admissions that work to an extent but never good enough to help make the cut
  • Being advised or coached by someone who has traveled the MBA road before

I am totally confused at this point of time as what I should do further. 1) continue my work in IT 2) join any coaching centre and take GMAT once again 3) temporarily shift to other sector apart from IT and start to gain more workex. @MansieDewanConsulting : any help here please?

Here are a few but very Important pointers to help you navigate through your MBA journey:

1. Plan and manage your time well.  It is better to sweat it out during preparation rather than bleed in the battlefield!! (Metaphorically speaking of course!!)

2.Answer this question in just 300 words "What do you seek to achieve from an MBA? What is your strongest skill that drives your post MBA Goal? "

3.Create an excel sheet and maintain a record of all your research and information you collect while looking at business schools.

4. Zero in on the few whose offerings align with your professional and personal aspirations(minimum 5) . Look at class size, curriculum, specializations, industry wise breakage of placements, scholarship options, brand value and return on investment.

5. Now, start establishing personal connections. Get your profile evaluated BY the admissions committees. Connect with current students and alumni. Seek advice on your profile and how the school can help you acquire the required/enhance skills to achieve your POST MBA Goals.  Connect with professors who teach subjects of your interest and/or are industry experts. Before you start, make sure you have a list of legible questions to ask.

6. Start researching on companies that hire on campus and how you fit into their organizational chart, keeping your short term and long-term goals in mind.

7. After selecting your schools and making a list in order of preference, begin your GMAT preparation. Having the list before hand will keep you motivated to stay on track and target a score higher than the mean range. Always have room to re-take the GMAT before you put in your applications. I always STRESS to take the GMAT before or around April so that there is room for improvisation until July. Perseverance is the key here.

8. Identify recommenders and speak to them beforehand to avoid last minute glitches.

9. Create accounts for your prospective schools. This way you'll get information about roadshows, information sessions, webinars that are organized by the school.

10. Make a plan of action; chalk out milestones and stick to achieving them.

11. There are a lot of rumours floating around related to profiles and applications. What happens with one need not become a trend. Believe in your profile and information you get from schools.

12.There are many people on PaGalGuy who help out unconditionally. Connect with them.

Good Luck and God Bless!

suggest some good gmat coaching centers in chennai

Hello,

I am 31, working with Accenture as an Associate Manager with a total experience in IT (technical) and Management Consulting of 10 years. I have recently started preparing for GMAT for either a 2 year full time MBA (ISB Hyd or abroad) or a 1 year MBA for executives (IIM, IMT, SP Jain etc.). I understand my age might be just on the higher end but want to give a chance with my full potential. I have a rich work experience but not so great academics - 12th 60%, BE in Computer Science 58%. I want an experienced suggestion if I am on the right track or should I try something else, or if you think I have missed something. I feel I have got understanding, knowledge and the smart way to go forth but think that MBA is missing which will be very essential if I want to grow in my career. Once I complete MBA, I plan to continue in my field (technology / management consulting), which I am sure I'd be able to reap MBA benefits.

Any suggestions / thoughts please?

Thanks - Mohit
