Ask a Consultant! - GMAT/GRE Only

Hey,

I am an entrepreneur working in a partnership firm for the past 2 years, and our company deals into assisting clients with security measures and equipment that provides utmost safety to their industrial working conditions, as per Government norms.

Graduated from an A grade college of Mumbai as an engineer (B.E), I pursued an IT career in one of the top IT firms of India. After serving the company as a software engineer for a little over 3 years, I planned on giving my career a boost by getting into entrpreneurship.

While being software savvy and closely associated with the online e commerce framework, i have put my skills into providing online marketing and promotion of my products that has helped my business grow.

However, now I want to scale up my capabilities and skills by doing an MBA in the sales and marketing sector.

I have given my GMAT in July 2011 and my score is 660. I wish to do an MBA abroad.

Kindly assist me with my course of action.

Thanks.

Hi to all the fellow members. I am fairly new to this site and world of b schools too. I have certain queries which i need help on.Any help would be really appreciated. I have just started preparing for CAT 13 , now i know i only have 3 months while students take 1 year or so to prepare. I am a chartered accountant by profession and i have an exp of 1.5 years in a CA firm (not big four). I am from non maths background and i have fairly low scores in high school as i was not into acads at that that point of tym ( 10th : 65% 12th :57%) but i cleared CA in first attempts ( i guess i started njoyin acads). I am looking for a boost to my career so i have decided to pursue MBA, but only top 20 b schools is my aim. So my questions are :

1. With the fairly low scores in 12th and 10th can i think of being selected in top b schools..?

2. Can i prepare well for CAT 13 with the ltd time left...?

3. how much weightage is given to school marks by b schools...?

4. is my CA qualification and work-ex is at all considered anywhere in addmission process..?

i know its a long question... but i need help please....

I prefer one year MBA course, have good recommendations, and I aim for following schools:
1. INSEAD

2. HKUST

3. MIT-SLOAN(SDM)

4. Rotterdam School of Management

5. ISB Hyderabad

Reason to go for an MBA: Have a world class experience of meeting awesome people around the world. Education is secondary.

I am also open to Management courses focussed specifically on Technology or Information Systems. You may recommend some. I know that few schools listed above would be out of my range, but if anything I could do to still target them, please let me know. Also you may give suggestions on other schools. I also plan to give GMAT again by October.

Thanks in advance!!!

I know i am in a bit of disadvantage belonging to the huge pool of indian candidates and with a less than average work experience.

So please suggest colleges which align with my career goals as i plan to make a switch from consulting to a more strategic role and the ones which provide financial aids and the tuition fees are on the lower side.

Thanks.

Hi,

I intend to go in for International Luxury Brand management from Essec Paris in Sept '14. I'm planning to give my GMAT by Feb'14. I'm an MBA from IIFT New Delhi. With a 2.5year work ex in a major FMCG company as Assistant Brand Manager.

I have been interested in Luxury since school time but as there aren't any (renowned) Luxury management courses in India I went ahead to do my MBA ( International Business) with specialization in Marketing.

I think now with 2 years spent in the FMCG sector in an highly reputed company, I' in a position to go ahead to fulfil my ambitions.

But leaving a secure present n to move to an unsure 1giant leap of faith.I welcome any comments to help me in deciding.

Do B Schools in Europe/Asia have the criteria of 16 years education?I am a Grad from Pune Univ with a decent experience in Banking and finance with Citi. I want to appear for GMAT too but some posts have rendered me clueless.

hi there. i am a Dentist from gujarat with 4 yrs of work experience. i have done my masters in dentistry. GMAT score is 680. want to know about B schools offering world class MBA in Healthcare. need info on European and US b schools offering healthcare MBA. heard that NUS SINGAPORE is good. inputs will be appreciated. thanks

Dear Sir/Madam,

After working close to 8.5 yrs in IT with 3 years onsite experience, I am planning to apply this year for a 1yr MBA courses. I have been working in software delivery roles throughout my career with progress from tech lead, onsite lead to project leader handling team of strengths 10-12. My primary focus post MBA is to aim for IT consulting or senior positions in large scale Enterprise Solutions (thats an umbrella term for my core expertise - Enterprise Content Mgmt)

I am prepping for my GMAT and giving it in next 3 weeks, targetting a score of atleast 700. Assuming I am able to achieve that it gives me very few days to apply to IIMB/C; which might reduce my prospect since my essays may not be thorough. Post that there is ISB which would be a definite choice. Apart from these, what other programs/schools should I look into which would suit my profile? I am not very inclined to do a course in US/Europe firstly due to huge financial burden and secondly, I see myself advancing my career primarily in India or Asia Pacific. That said, I am open to ideas to ensure I am not limiting my choices for a well rounded MBA degree.

What would you suggest me for the same?

Appreciate your help.

Hi frens,

I am aiming at MBA Operations.,2014.
Gmat:750, Btech+Mtech from IITMadras, 3 years work ex till now in operations profile at power PSU, Good extra-curr at college, and reasonable achievements at work.

After going through the discussions/reviews/consultation i have shortlisted some schools relevant to my profile. ISB, MIT-Sloan, Michigan Ross...

But i am confused on 2 more schools.. My queries are
1. INSEAD...Does INSEAD highly prefer international experience, how much weightage is given for it?
I have initially planned for INSEAD but dropped it because of international experience.
2. As 4 th univ I am confused between CMU tepper & Jhonson Cornell.
Some say CMU is more of research type, though operations is good. Some say Jhonson is good for finance and consulting. What is what? and which is more appealing to me?

Thank you,
Ravi kiran
