Hello..
I am looking to do mba after the completion of my engineering. Still i have got 3 more years as i have completed my 1 year just now. I couldn't score well in my 12 board exam n landed up with only 67 percent marks. I want to try for iims in india or good mba colleges outside India. So can u tell me whether my 12 marks will affect my cat or gmat score or will i get a seat based on my cat ot gmat scores only . Can u please mention some good books for the preparation for the cat and gmat exams.....
I am working in Tata power for past 25 months. Now that i realize technical field is not my cup of tea, i want to do MBA. And after getting recommended for this from a colleague i have landed here.
I have completed by B.E in Information Technology . wll be soon pursuing masters in management studies . I wanna go as analyst/business analyst in future as my career job. moreover I am not inclined much towards programming field. so which specialization i should go for Finance or I.T ?

Hi,
hi,
Hi guys,
Would like to have some advice on my options for masters.
XII-80%
U/G- b.com (h) Delhi university.
Gmat-660(q 44 v38)
Eca -average.
So, i have joined my family business after my undergrad and it has been 2 yrs since.
I find it ideal to do a masters degree now before i get completely immersed in business operations and later may not be able to break off from work.
Post masters would join back the family operations but would like to gain a year or maybe 2 w.ex in a school placed company.
I dont find value in US schools as all decent ones will end up costing 80lac+(am i wrong here??)..
I am open to Europe and asia but not very sure about Australia..
I wouldn't mind doing a MIM OR a Msc degree if from a well recognized schools.(but i feel mim is relevant to ppl with nil or very less exp. or students from other field of study... Any pointers here??)
I am open for both one year and two year courses..
Now, would like to know what program would suit my profile and what schools should i target considering my average score in gmat.
I would also like to know of any january intake schools that would be suitable for me.
Hi, dear consultant; My profile looks like: 10th- 88%, 12th 78.4%, B.tech (Electrical) NIT Surat: 7.84;I'm yet to take my GMAT. I have been working with Reliance Infrastructure in operations for 3 years now. I was just wondering what would be the best colleges in US, Canada, Singapore or Australia that would accept a profile like that of mine. Since, I have work-ex in operations so I suppose it would behoove me if I go for an MBA in General management or Operations management. So would you be kind enough to enlist the best colleges in the above mentioned countries that offer the best programs in these two courses taking factors like fee-structure, job opportunities, scholarships etc into consideration! Thanks! π
Hello...My Profile looks like
Hi guys,
Would like to have some advice on my options for masters.Gmat-660(q 44 v38)
Your GMAT is on the lower side and may pose a problem for some b-schools. Will you be willing to retake it if its below the average GMAT score for your target b-schools?
So, i have joined my family business after my undergrad and it has been 2 yrs since.I find it ideal to do a masters degree now before i get completely immersed in business operations and later may not be able to break off from work.
A break from work is always welcome
, although it may not be possible. With 2 years of work experience tucked under your belt, you are in a good position to apply.
Post masters would join back the family operations but would like to gain a year or maybe 2 w.ex in a school placed company.
There is no concept such as "school placed company". The b-school will only facilitate your getting a job through its career services/ job treks/ alumni network/ campus interviews and through other networking opportunities. The responsibility of getting a job will eventually rest on your shoulders.
But yes, it is feasible to work in another company for a few years before you get back to business. You may have to address who will take care of the business in your absence, in the applications.
I think it will be relevant for you to work in a startup / an established company, depending upon what your business is, and what are the skills that you want to pick up from your post MBA experience, which you can later utilize in your family run business.
I dont find value in US schools as all decent ones will end up costing 80lac+(am i wrong here??)..
There is a bigger range from 50L -80L. The top ranked ones are more expensive, i.e. leaning towards 80L.
I am open to Europe and asia but not very sure about Australia..
There are many programs which have a module/ specialization in family business. Those should be of interest to you (search on Top MBA's website).
The probability of finding a job in the region where you study are the highest (~90%). Let your choice of the region be based on this.
I wouldn't mind doing a MIM OR a Msc degree if from a well recognized schools.(but i feel mim is relevant to ppl with nil or very less exp. or students from other field of study... Any pointers here??)
MSc will not make sense for you, because you are essentially looking at enhancing your business skills, which will happen through the MiM or MBA.
MiM is relevant for people with 0-2 years of work exp. So, I think you will be a fit there. Research these programs - again watch out for the family related courses.
I am open for both one year and two year courses..
Most of the 2 year courses are in US. π
Now, would like to know what program would suit my profile and what schools should i target considering my average score in gmat.
You are going to to this preliminary research and come back on this forum to share that with us. π

currently i am pursuing my b.tech in computer engg. with approx . 70%.
is my profile fine enough to get into good mba college or a better university in usa for gre provided i get good enough scores for these exams?
I have total 9 years of experience in IT industry. I quit last organization in April 2013 and have been looking out for a new once since then. Meanwhile, I utilized the time to prepare for GMAT as well.
Is Doing MBA in Supply Chain Management and Operations from Welingkar is better idea instead of doing it from Indian Institute of Business and Research (Pune)
I also have a similar story to share; however, my GMAT results were surprisingly unpleasant. I gave the GMAT twice and got a 660 in my first attempt and a 610 in my second. I guess I am one of the few unfortunate people who see their score drop by 50 points despite working twice as hard ( I joined classes, took 10 days off work before the exam, gave multiple tests, etc.. etc..) I do not have the courage the courage to give the GMAT a third time because I feel I have more to lose than gain. I say this because
1. If I get a low score the third time, then the 660 will seem like an outlier to the adcom
2. The low score will further make me under confident and I might possibly have to forego my MBA dream
3. I got a 48 in Quant in both the attempts; it was verbal where I fluctuated like crazy. So maybe the adcoms may be forgiving
Hence after giving it some thought, I have decided to apply for the session next year. My profile is below. It will be great if an expert can honestly tell me where I stand at this moment and how I should proceed further. I am interested to know if I stand a chance in the top ten MBA schools and if my profile looks promising β to say the essays, LOR's, etc. can help me over shadow the GMAT
25 years, Female
Electrical Engineer from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. GPA β 3.3
Work Experience - 4.5 years
I started as out as an Engineer and worked with a telecom company in their Technical department. I then realised that I wanted to do something that involved both a technical and a commercial aspect. Hence after working for a year in the Technical division, I changed jobs to Consulting. I am currently working as an analyst in US based energy and power consulting firm. I work very closely with the US power markets. This is my second job - I have been working here for about 3 years now
Highlights at work - I have been awarded the exemplary contributor award twice in 3 years. I was promoted in my second year itself. Also I am part of the CSR and Green Team at work. I started out as a volunteer in the team and now am heading both the teams in the New Delhi office. My story was also featured in the first ever CSR magazine of the company.
I am interested in a MBA that specializes in operations and management or a MBA that has a strong general management offering.
Appreciate all the help!
Best,
Shruti
