Hi ! I would like all of your inputs as to what I could be doing to make my profile better, and increase my chances of getting accepted to the top B-schools(HBS, Stanford GSB, MIT, Wharton). I am currently enrolled in my final year of my undergrad engineering program in India, and I am applying to the ISB YLP, I plan to apply to other B-schools for the fall 2014 admissions (If I haven't already missed the deadlines). I have my GMAT exam on 26th July 2013. I am hoping to get a decent score of about 700.

Undergrad GPA (Engineering in India): 3.5(till the end of 6th semester, 2 more semesters to go!) GMAT: 700 (expected)

Internship Experience:

June'11 to August'11: AIESEC development internship to Mauritius (Women Empowerment).

June'13 to December'13: 6 months: Larsen & Toubro Pvt Ltd.

I have worked as a voluntary teacher for teaching elementary maths and english to school children under a community development program. Received academic scholarship during my first year, and have been in the top 5 of the class. Extras: Film and photography Music Fine Arts Horse riding I don't really have much technical or business experience as of now. But I believe my extras could be a strong part of my profile.

I'd like your valuable inputs as to how/what could I be doing to make my profile and present a competitive candidature while applying to the top B schools.

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hi I have just attempted CFA Level 2 exam this yr. Im working at Investment Banking Derivatives Operations since 3 yrs. Im looking for change...but Im confused which field in finance to go for. Can anyone please advise me?

Dear Consultant,

Can you please evaluate my profile.
Education wise, this is what I done so far....
10th/12th - 87.2 %, BE Mech. (India), 3.7, MS Mech. (US), 3.85 GPA. Thesis option with a few journal papers.
GMAT : 710
Been working in a large auto company for past 4 and half year now as R&D; engineer based in US, current position as a team lead.
I am interested in general MBA, I like the industry I am in and would like to return to it once I get the degree (thats what the plan is at the moment). I think I am an decent engineer but am missing expertise in overall program management and am not patient enough to wait for 6-7 more years to learn that.
I haven't done any super awesome EC's, have done decent amount of volunteering work (teaching young kids, organizing charity walks etc).

Can folks here please suggest some good schools for general MBA. Also, should I focus on US based schools or rest of the world too (I am ok going anywhere for a good degree and experience).

Thanks
Abhi

Dear Consultant,
I am a B.A (History) Graduate with 70% from St Xaviers College Mumbai, I have currently given my M.A history Part 1(Mumbai University), Currently 2 years of rich work experience in the field of Marketing and brand management. I want to study abroad and focus on GMAT filed of study marketing. I agree am not an engineer or a science student like other on this forum, but am way to creative at my work with regards to executing marketing plans, budgets and worked with students from IIM-A, B and C. Currently working for a top notch real estate firm, just need your suggestion on how can I make my way forward. I am weak when it comes to quants? I just need a way to start on getting my way forward?

I just completed BE in ECE...Now Iam little confused whether to go for MBA or do MS...Please suggest which is better..If MBA whether after 2years of job experience or without...

Hi, I'm working for an mnc for the past 3.5 years. I have also worked abroad as part of an onsite assignment. I'm interested in pursuing a distance-learning MBA degree from a foreign reputed university. Please provide me options.

Hi, I'm a B.Tech from NIT-Trichy. 3.5 years work-ex. Worked at Oracle for a year, and now at a digital media start up. My work has always kinda been part tech, part creative (mostly advertising), and I work with brands on the internet currently. We use a lot of tech so it's not completely advertising.

I would love to continue what I do right now. I'm wondering if I can find an overseas MBA course that suits my profile, one that is aimed at working with brands and working on the web.

I think the MBA will let me work with bigger brands and complement my tech degree, since the work I do needs both. It could also be a giant waste of money. Do correct me if I'm wrong, I just started my hunt and I'm more lost than Nemo was.

Thanks!

@N.Sharan

Hello, I have completed my BE in Mechatronics Engineering and I am preparing for the ISB 2014 admissions. I have 2 years work experience in Wabco Vehicle Control Systems, a leading automotive supplier. My acads are as follows

10th - 87%

12th - 97%

UG - 8.4 CGPA

I am yet to give my GMAT but I wanted an opinion on the prospects of an Automotive background in ISB and other B schools?

Hi Sharan,

You have interesting and diverse profile. If you can brief us more about your work experience, achievements at work place, awards and recognitions, also mention about your extracurricular activities which will help to evaluate your profile and regarding your query on prospects of automotive background, ISB always looks for diversity, leadership attributes, team handling abilities. So you have good prospects so just focus on getting 700+ GMAT and concentrate more on application essays/recommendations. Let me know if you have any questions...๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hi there

I would like to have your advice on my chances and options for pursuing a mba. I have worked with a major MNC EPC for 23 months. My role was that of a process engineer. It was a technical role through which I got exposure to the technical side of the activities, related to designing and setting up of chemical plants , refineries etc
I was also the steering committee member (youngest among the team) for a group of developing leaders within the company , in which I held the post of event manager. I was the main brain behind the overall activities that were to be carried out throughout the year, to develop talent and hone leadership skills of the young people. I initiated a couple of ideas which increased the participation of the group members. I was also part of a niche team which had been conceptualized to increase client and company interactions through implementation of strategies that had been taken up in running that leadership group.
Looking at my skills I was selected for the role pf project engineer to support one of the project managers , a role which is usually given to people having 4 - 5 years of industry experience.
I have also lead a CSR effort of my company , comprising a team of 15 members.
I have published a paper related to gas study in India
I was the Young Professional Ambassador for Teach For India and was voted one of their star performing YPA's from north and rate among one of the best nationally.
Have lead a couple of other small small teams leading while managing a couple of other events in office.
Have decent extra co currics in college. Was member of AIESEC and ROTARACT and had a couple of small leadership roles. Have organized many evens in college and was member of the team which brought out the technical magzine of the department after 4 years.

My acads are 10th 90.8% 12th 86% Bachelors in Chemical Engg PU, 75.91%. I have appeared for my GMAT on 1 July 2013 and scored a 760 (Q/V 50/42). Currently I am searching for other job opportunities as I had left my previous job to pursue my ambition for securing my mba. However in the mean time I am looking in to the working of a carbon black plant in Punjab, till the time I dont find a more suitable option.

I would be really thankful if one of the consultants could look into this and provide me a realisitic picture in terms of the schools that should be targeted especially the ones in India and those which may provide a scholarship.

With regards
S.P.mg
