Ask a Consultant! - GMAT/GRE Only

hi..

I am an electrical and electronics engineer with more than 3 years experience in automation, robotics and manufacturing industry. I am planning to do an MS.Can anyone suggest me best courses to apply for MS in the US keeping in mind job availability as the primary factor... I would like to continue in the manufacturing or automation industry after MS.

  Thank you...

HI

I am a IT engineer with more that 3 years experience as a software engineer. I want to do an MBA. So far the consultants i have spoken to say i have a basic profile. So my question is how to present your essays so that you stand out? My major focus is ISB

Can we follow this conversion table:

For Indian Undergraduate score(GPA - on 10) to 4 for taking GMAT test.

Please help.

Please evaluate my profile and answer the questions. Thank you.

Profile Synopsis:

GMAT 710 ( QA: 50 VA 35 IR : 3 )

Graduation : 74% Electronics and Communications Engineering, DCE in 2011

X : 87 XII : 86

Work Experience : Starting from August 2011 till now : 4 years at a semiconductor company/software . It will be 5 years when the session begins next year.

Extra Curriculars :

- An award at workplace for good performance.

- Two promotions at work in 4 years.

- Interested in photography. Got some photos selected in annual company calender.

- A 2 month stint at a reputed NGO

- Participation in organization of a college fest event

- Nothing else

Questions:

1) What are my chances at ISB's one year full time MBA program? As you see, I have a rather weak profile in addition to being not well rounded. To compensate for this , should I wait for round-2 ( which means 2 more months ) and try getting a higher score. I think I can reach 740 with some hard work. I want this attempt at ISB to be my best one. In addition, what are the steps, if possible, I can take to improve my profile. Will any short term activity help or will it end up acting against.

2) Do I have any chance with this profile at IIM's one year full time MBA program if I apply for next year via GMAT? Frankly, I am overwhelmed by applicant's profile there. Same question for xlri gmp and spjimr one year program.

3) Which international schools should I apply to? How can I generate a 'schools in reach' list. I have heard NUS is good. Unfortunately I can not afford schools who have fees Rs 40 Lakhs and above.

4) What can I do in next coming two months in extra curricular(s) to improve my chances, if I decide to apply in R2.

5) Post MBA, I want to get into product management in software/hardware domain. My work experience is of a individual contributor as opposed to managerial. I have interest in doing an MBA. Do people of my experience get through. (Sorry, this looks like (1)/(2) ). How do I put this through in my essays/interviews, that I want to continue in software field but in a managerial/sales role and move up higher the ladder.

Hi, I want to know if there are any good test series for gmat which can help me to get a good score..

Planning to give GMAT in February 2016. Wish to start right away. Quite confused about how to start and where to start from.

Possible for someone to share a sort of study plan they followed for 5-6 months? Along side some books which are a must-have.

Thanks in advance!

Hola everyone! I need some guidance by the experts

I am aspiring candidate looking to take an admit in 2017. Can someone please review my profile and help me with the pointers post my profile:

In chronological order

Male, 27 years

10th: 75% (ICSE)

12th: 55% (I know its poor, but I was not academically sound till about 2 years later)

Engineering: 64% - 1st class (Computer Science, Pune University, Top college of Pune)

MBA (yes, I already have an MBA): 70% (A decent score)

Extracuriculars: Uptill Engineering, nothing noteworthy. However, In my MBA:

- Was the President of my marketing club

- Pioneered and drove the marketing magazine for the college

- Headed various event and won many accolades for the same

- Won a couple of business case study events too

Work-ex: 3.5 years in consumer insights post my MBA (with global, reputed firms). I have been client consulting in the research domain for 3 years with 6 months spent so far on the client side.

Work ex achievement:

- Youngest joinee to have given a client presentation

- Rank 1 in a particular research framework for the organisation

- Can get multiple strong recommendations right from MD, EDs in the firm for my exemplary work

Reason for 2nd MBA

There are 3 reasons largely:

1) I am looking to shift my career to consulting with top firms (Mckinsey, Bain)

2) Looking to make a global career

3) Not happy with the current career progress. It is too slow for my liking

Colleges Aiming for (in order of preference):

- INSEAD

- LBS

- ISB

- One of the 3 IIMs (A/B/C)

I realise my profile may come accross as peculiar (or is it just a figment of my imagination?)

I need guidance on the below

1) What are my chances (I am yet to give the GMAT)

2) What additional do I need to do in the 1.5 odd years I have to further strenghten my candidature

3) Will be glad if I can have a F2F interaction as well with someone to discuss these things. If anyone can guide me on that, will be great!

Thanks in anticipation!

Rishi

ISB or IIM?

ISB or IIM? Most of the MBA aspirants from India have this question while planning for their MBA. It is difficult for them to choose between the two. However both these B-Schools are distinct from each other in various aspects. It is very important to understand the requirements of the B-Schools before applying to them.

IIMs are a familiar name among the students who are planning for an MBA since decades in India. With its presence in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Kozhikode and Lucknow, IIMs have set a benchmark in the Indian management education. But with the rise of ISB the aspirants from India got a world class B-Schools with international standards. Indian students had reasons to think beyond the Ivey league B-Schools and IIMs. IIMs had only a less number of seats for their PGPX programs, while ISB has more than 700 seats for the aspirants which made the candidates attracted toward it. Unlike IIMs the selection criteria was not too strict which allowed the ISB to gain confidence. But it is not possible for anyone to get an admission at ISB. At ISB average GMAT score is around 711 and average work experience is around 4 years. Students with good and proven management skills always had an upper hand at the time of admissions. However at IIMs the candidate's previous academics and average work experience of 6+ years was given weightage. This means if you are aiming at the IIMs PGPX program you should start the preparation right from you matriculation rather than an age which you decide to mold you career.

With all these reasons and being one of its kind global B-School in India, ISB started gaining importance among the young minds who are looking to make a career shift and an career progress. Moreover ISB also started programs like Young Leaders Program and Early Entry Option which gave options to aspirants to apply while they are in college and soon after their graduations. If you are aiming to be part of this world class MBA program, start your preparations without wasting any time.

Try getting a 720+ in your GMAT and prepare you application essays well. However if you need to talk to the alumni of ISB to understand your chances, you may always PM.

Best,

Neha
