It all depends upon the level on the XAT day. I suggest you NOT to target for 60%tile in VA and make it safe , at least 10+.
I screwed my QA last season and cleared all the other sections XL BM Call. That is because , I thought, I needed to attempt 17-19 Qs in LR for 95+(LR Section) in XAT. So no pre - conceived. Devote at least 30 mins to all sections and maximise in the buffer time.
All the best. :)
thnx kinjal i got ur point....actually i am weak in va....& usually i give 20 min to va & attempt 9 Q WITH 4-5 accurate....so pls tell me how much marks we should ussually get in a xat level paper to get 60%ile....in va so tht i can increase my time & attempts accordingly....
Could seniors please suggest any methods which work in Essays when we get topics like "The Inherent vice of Capitalism is unequal sharing of blessings and the inherent virtue of Socialism is equal sharing of misery" , in which we have no clue of the subject what-so-ever ?

there are no standard way.....look you people won`t even get time to think....my advice will be to concentrate on the exam at this point of time because that`ll decide whether you`ll sit across the interviewer pr not...and even at GDPI stage essay only forms a small part( sometimes it doesnt) of evaluation..

I'm an engineering student, so I'm going to try and explain in terms I understand. I'm sure there is a lot more to socialist theory.
Socialism is basically taking care of everybody without looking at who deserves it more. As a result, those who do not do well must be taken care of, with the earnings of those who do. For example, social service schemes.
Now the problem arises, when some people who are responsible for their own condition gets benefits transferred from a person who has worked hard to achieve them. Basically, people who couldn't compete in the real world, irrespective of whether it was due to lack of opportunities or their own incompetence, now have to be looked after by those who succeeded, thus transferring the misery from the successful to the poor.
In a developing country like India, socialism is a must, because the overwhelming majority of people who need such benefits are in that state because of a lack of opportunity rather than their own incompetence.
However, in a developed country with, say, free education including college and enough employment opportunities, it doesn't make sense to have social service schemes which excessively burden those who simply did better than others, using more or less the same opportunities.
Of course, that much is just the meaning of the title itself. What do they expect us to write in the actual essay?
Can someon please confirm the following with respect to negative marking: Assume 1/5 for first 5 and rest progressive 1/4. Correct : 10 wrong 10
Will the net score be
1) 10 - 5*0.2 - 5*0.25 = 10-1-1.25 = 8.75
or
2) 10- 5*0.2 - 1/4 - 1/2 - 3/4 - 1 - 5/4 = 5.25
I Am confused whether with respect to "progressive" negative marking. Does negative marking increase with every question or remain constant after x no. of questions.
