JEE Main and Advanced 2019 Syllabus

The Joint Entrance Exam popularly known as JEE is a primary eligibility criteria preferred by several reputed engineering institutes such as IITs, NITs, IIITs and other premier institutes like IISC, and IISER for admission to their B.E or B.Tech programs.

The vastness and varsity of IIT JEE Syllabus and the high level of competition makes it one of the toughest and most competitive national exam. Other than working hard, it is essential is to work smart. Everybody has their personal preparation strategy, but, initially, it is important for every student to be well versed with the detailed syllabus of JEE 2019 before starting their preparations. Scoring a seat in IITs or NITs is not challenging if you plan your studies well enough and invest your efforts accordingly.

The syllabus issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for JEE Main and Advanced consist of a list of topics and sub topics.

The syllabus is drawn on 3 subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

IIT JEE Main 2019 Syllabus:

  1. Chemistry Syllabus: The Chemistry syllabus consist of 3 sections namely Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. These sections are further allocated multiple topics
    1. Physical Chemistry: It includes some basic concepts in Chemistry, states of matter, equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Chemical Bonding, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Molecular Structure, Chemical Thermodynamics, Solutions, Surface Chemistry, Atomic Structure.
    2. Inorganic Chemistry: It includes Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, d- and f- Block Elements from elements chart, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals, Hydrogen, S-Block Elements commonly known as Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals, P- Block Elements, Co-ordination Compounds, Environmental Chemistry.
    3. Organic Chemistry: It includes topics such as Purification and Characterization of Organic Compounds, Few Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry, Polymers, Biomolecules, Organic Compounds containing Halogens, Organic Compounds containing Oxygen, Principles related to Practical Chemistry and Chemistry in Everyday Life.
  2. Physics Syllabus: The topics included in Physics syllabus for IIT JEE Main 2019 are Physics and Measurement, Gravitation, Laws of Motion, Thermodynamics, Work, Energy and Power, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Rotational Motion, Kinetic Theory of Gases, Electrostatics, Oscillations and Waves, Current Electricity, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Optics, Electromagnetic Waves, Magnetic effects of Current and Magnetism, Electronic Devices, Gravitation, Atoms and Nuclei and Communication Systems.
  3. Mathematics Syllabus: Sets, Relations and Functions, Binomial Theorem and its Simple Applications, Co-ordinate Geometry, Mathematical Reasoning, Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations, Sequences and Series, Permutations and Combinations, Limit, Continuity and Differentiability, Matrices and Determinants, Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics and Probability, Integral Calculus, Trigonometry and Vector Algebra.

JEE Advanced 2019 Syllabus:

While the subjects under JEE Advanced syllabus are same as those under the JEE Main syllabus, the topics covered under these subject differ to a great extent.

  1. Chemistry Syllabus: It consist of 3 sections: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The topics covered under these sections are as follows :
    1. Physical Chemistry: It includes topics such as Gaseous and Liquid States, Solutions, Surface Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics and Nuclear Chemistry.
    2. Inorganic Chemistry: It encapsulates topics such as Isolation/Preparation and Properties of the following Non-metals, Extractive Metallurgy, Preparation and Properties of the following Compounds, Ores and Minerals, Principles of Qualitative Analysis, Preparation and Properties of the following Compounds and Transition Elements (3D Series).
    3. Organic Chemistry: It consist of topics such as Preparation, Properties and Reactions of Alkenes, Reactions of Benzene, Phenols, Preparation, Properties and Reactions of Alkenes and Alkynes. 
  1. Physics Syllabus: The Physics syllabus consist of topics such as Mechanics, Wave nature of Light, Thermal Physics, Optics, Modern Physics and Electricity and Magnetism.
  2. Mathematics syllabus: The Mathematics syllabus includes topics such as Trigonometry, 3 dimensions Analytical geometry, 2 dimensions Analytical geometry, Algebra, Integral calculus, Differential calculus and Vectors.

All aspiring IIT JEE candidates need to go through the syllabus thoroughly as it tunes their mind to grab all the important aspects of the chapters in detail. It is very crucial to go through the chapter’s time-to-time to make sure that no important topic is left out. Students should ensure that the syllabuses of all subjects are well covered in time to avoid further clashes. The students require excellent conceptual knowledge accompanied with methodologies and application to ace this exam, therefore, they should ideally give equal weightage to physics, chemistry and mathematics.
