Lightbulb HCS Project 3 - Written English Classes - 24-04-2005, 08:31 AM

Hey folks!

Yes we are back in action! Apologies for the huge delay

Yesterday we (Adhish and I) met Mr Arvind from MVF. They are planning to start a month long (?) english language course for their documentation assistants. Since the target audience will be the doc assistants (DA), we need to lay more stress on written English this time. So a simple copy paste of our approach last time will not work!

Objectives:

1. The DAs have to draw the program calendars (PC) etc of MVF. We've asked MVF to send us a copy of a "near perfect" PC so that we know what it is that these guys r expected to do once they are thro with this course. Also asked them for a PC drawn up by one of the DAs so as to know at what level these guys are.
2. To be able to communicate a little in English, so spoken English is gonna be there on the "syllabus"
3. TO be able to do some elimentary Maths problems. Here elimentary is a subjective word, don't know what exactly they have in mind.

Background of DAs: Most of them are 10th or 12th pass. And atleast some of them do prepare these PCs in English. Some of them prepare it in telugu and send it to head office for translation.

Likely start date: May 15th

They were planning to start the program in the first week of may, but we've asked for a postponement to may 15th as the engg folks are having their eggjams, even and I wont be in town

Venue:

1. Chevalla Trng Center – Our participation might be restricted to 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday – effectively giving us 36 hours (assuming it will run for 3 weeks, and 1 hrs lunch brk). Transportation to be provided by MVF.
2. Somewhere in the city – We will be participating during the week too. Much more effective in terms of knowledge sharing, but might not be financially viable for MVF.

We need to tell to them on Monday the number of ppl who commit to option 1 / 2. If the no. of ppl committing to Option 2 is a good figure, then they might conduct it in the city itself.

I have created a yahoo poll for this on the Y! grp: mvf_hyd_vol. So those from hyd willing to help, please subscribe to that list and register ur vote over there. We don't have much time on our hands if we need to start it on May 15th!

Any queries/suggestion, post back!

take care,
have fun,
Uday

Uday,

I will go for option - 1. I would like to contribute even to the 2nd one, but I've my own reservations as my job may not permit me to do so. Well, as I've posted in the HCS thread, the news from my frnds can be known most probably on monday. So I may give u the news by Monday evening.

I'm waiting 4 approval from Y! grp mvf_hyd_vol. I would like to see what activities went on there previously.

That really wouldn't be an issue prasanna....Go thro' the thread for the previous english course and you will find that most of the volunteers back then are people who were working.....We could always try and come up with a time-table thats acceptable to most constraints

And this time around we will have to chalk out a propah time-table before hand....

As for my availability, hmm...cant guarantee anything as of now But yea, if I am around in hyd, you can take it for granted I'll be there

Cheers
