Call for Mumbai PaGaLs - Tsunami Relief Funds - 29-12-2004, 05:00 PM

It has not been a Merry Xmas to loads of people. Nor will it be a Happy New Year!

It has been a tragic event, killing thousands & thousands of people around the world. And at this point, if we are not able to extend some kind of help (any kind of help!) to the bereaved, then who else will!!

No, we do not want money!! We just want ur help!!

I called up Ashish sometime back and spoke to him regarding this Tsunami relief that is being worked upon by his friend. Then he suggested whether PG (as in PaGaLGuY) can be associated with this act. This is just a thought, would love to hear what all of u think abt this.

All other cities, U are welcome to start off something on these lines & help as much as u can.

Ok, Mumbaikers -

Why not try to do our bit by giving away old clothes & usable things around the house to the sufferring people. It might be just ur old clothes or/ and ur families' and/or ur friends' and/or neighbours. We can collect all these stuffs and meet up once in NASEOH during the weekend. Then send of the entire lot to the Society in Chennai (More info on this Society - Ashish will provide!) This will be a small contribution from PaGaLGuY to the Tsunami victims.

What say! Each of us on our behalfs can be a lil more creative and organize our own collection drives at our work places, apartments, societies etc etc. Other forum members can come and drop off their items at one person's house. Say, all Vashi residents can drop off their stuff at my place. Borivili guys at Allwin's place etc etc.

So, lets hear what u think abt this, guys. Just dont sit & listen... Get up & Get Going... Someone somewhere could do with that ol' rugged blanket of urs.

Cheers

Good Idea Simba .....Sure thing we could collect a lot of stuff that we don't use anymore and which could prove to be Very Useful to the people in dire need.

The Scale of the disaster is mind numbing and the toll is just rising everyday ........We hope that in our own small way we could reach out and help instead of just sitting back

Good Idea about meeting at NASEOH.....We sure could do that.....Waiting for Ashish to update us on how we could go about sending the collected items to Chennai

Wayne

PS: Anybody from Andheri Side could drop off the collected stuff at my place

Just when I thought I knew all of Life's answers.........They changed all the questions.

How can we help the Tsunami victims? - 29-12-2004, 07:01 PM

**Have already posted it in the other thread. Reproducing the same here.**

As all of know about disaster that happened due to the tsunami waves. Many have lost their lives and their property. It will be very helpful if we can give them our helping hands.

'The Theosophical Society' in Adyar, Chennai is around 125yrs old & is dedicated to charitable work. Visit this site for more details about the society http://www.ts-adyar.org/.

I talked with Mr Venkatraman & he said that they are getting a lot of help from various hands and most of them are clothing. So, it will be better if we can provide them with provisions (like rice packets, salt, sugar, milk powder etc.,), blankets, vessels, bedsheets, floormats, etc.
Apart from these things they also need a lot of funds to buy school books, uniforms (we cannot send them as they are child specific & need to b stitched).

What we can do is we can have people from each area of Mumbai who can collect contributions & than later we will collate everything & ship them to the NGO. e.g. Thane people can give it to me, Vashi people can send them to Simba, borivali people can give it to Alwyn.
Whoever is interested to contrbute can PM the corresponding co-ordinator from tht area.

Now we need people who can come from diff parts of mumbai who can act as co-ords. I think PG/simba/wayne can assign this work.

Now how to generate funds?
Most of us here are college going junta & don't earn. But should that stop you from contributing towards this cause. NO way...
You can go & sell old newspapers or "kabad" this weekend & channelise the collections towards relief - ur parents would be more than happy to c u cleaning the house & contributing towards the cause.

You can ask your frnds to do similiar exercise & raise the funds.
There could be other ways to generate funds... think on...
Take care that NO CASH will be accepted. Only Cheques/Drafts in favour of "Theosophical order of service" along with donor’s address are accepted.

People who cannot donate cash can collect clothes & other items of use & send the same to one of the area co-ordinator before 7th Jan 2005 (friday).

We can than collectively ship these contributions to the NGO by 8th Jan (Saturday). If one of u can find out a parcel service in mumbai which can give us a discount that would be great.

Similiar initiative could be taken by Pune/Delhi/Hyderabad/B'lore people.

Please come forward with your contributions & suggestions.

Regards,
Ashish

If possible send some part of the collection to some other place such as Nagapattinam or Cuddalore. I hope someone can coordinate this. (I can't help with this at this moment.) These places need it more than Chennai.

Yes Ramki, you are right. Spoke to Ashish again and he thinks that clothes to that society may not be that worthwhile as they already have 4 lorries of clothes. So guys, if we wanna go ahead with this one... then.. how do we send it across to Nagapattinam & places like those.

Subbu, any idea... Uday, what say!!!
