Tidal Tragedy- I saw it unfolding before my eyes!!

Time came to a standstill for it looked like an accident waiting to happen. And it unfolded brutally, bitterly, indeed devastatingly causing extensive damage to life and property.

At around 6:50 in the morning, the city experienced mild tremors , panic was about to set in, bfor sanity prevailed as everyone was half asleep. My home faces the sea, and if anythin, it was quite calm then. 8:45- i got ready to leave for stella maris , the centre for the SimXat, the route to the college encompasses passing thru the Marina beach- the entire stretch of sand for roughly three kms. on the face of it, when i saw water upto four feet high at Gandhi statue ( Gandhi statue marks the end of the vertical stretch-in other words-its almost on the road), i thought i was havin a nitemare, almost rubbin my eyes in disbelief. The next thing i knew was droves of ppl runnin towards and away from the beach, thousands of people running for their lives, indeed pandemonium in the purest sense of the word. In a nut shell, the beach ceased to exist, almost like it never existed. The damage was done much bfor the media came in. The saddest thing however was the fact that being a sunday and close to new years ...the beach wud have definetly been full of kids playin cricket, volleyball, not to mention of scores of others who were havin their morning walks- No body cud have imagined the nature of the tragedy then, for it only looked like an after affect of the tremor. Hundreds of deaths this side of chennai-north chennai- are still unaccounted for-the toll in tamilnadu has unofficially exceeded the 10000 mark, bcoz of the sheer number of towns along the coastline. As i write this, a number of villages still cannot be reached. It sends shivers down my spine- the whole process of reliving the entire episode- the never ending sound of sirens, skies filled with choppers-Life will never be the same again.

I appeal to everyone on the forum to mobilize resources from their colleges, apartments, work places, indeed from within the forum , thts the least we can do.

mother nature dis is wht we call bt whn mother turns a killer thn we cant do nethin except sit n watch we feel like being tied to a pole bt life has 2 move on we must n we shd do whtevr thts poss 4 the victims.
