True ! In retrospect I fear we might keep waiting for that "critical mass" to happen and it will turn out that it might never come through.

I figure once we have a clear agenda and set expectations of what people need to contribute/take-awa we can proceed. Once the intial teething problem gets solved things will fall in place.

Hi folks,

Here is what I think we should be doing.

1. Check out
http://www.samarthanam.org. they are primarily into supporting visually impaired children.

2. Lets meet on Saturday 11th December, post lunch, and after meeting up, we will go to Samarthanam. here are the directions and a pretty useful map : http://www.samarthanam.org/contactus.htm

3. I have been trying to get in touch with Samarthanam, but the phone comes out as engaged. will update here as soon as i can get in touch with them.

4. uday pointed out that usually a lot of people have trouble dealing with the blind, in the sense, it is a bit disconcerting for people to deal with blindness, but lets give it a try, because working with samarthanam comes out as something we can do without requiring substantial skill or capital

5. once samarthanam gives the go ahead, we will fix the time for our meet - it probably has to be early afternoon, so that the samarthanam officials are available when we go and meet them. keep checking this thread for the exact time. location wud be the open air barista on MG road

got in touch with vijaya from samarthanam. we are visiting her at 4 pm Saturday, 11th December.
Lets meet up on MG road open air Barista, sharp at 2 45 pm.

After exchanging pleasantries and a cuppa, we will land up at Samarthanam at 4.

i think there is a lot of scope here, because there are certain activities we can do - for example, recording a book reading session on tape, which can be done at our own convenience, whenever our time permits. we will know more about what we can do once we go there.

hope to see all of u there.

if there are others interested, please feel free to drop by. to identify me, i will be the biggest chappie in a french beard and glasses around.

cheers
arbo

great - 08-12-2004, 05:00 PM

Hey its great to know about Samarthanam. The point being I think we need to be motivated on the long run only if we feel comfortable working on something we feel really passionate about. Helping blind children especially in the ways Shameekh mentioned, really got me pumped up

So Barista at MGRoad at 2:45pm this Saturday sounds good to me. And yea look out for a huge guy (I stand 6'3" stocking feet) with/out a french (depends on my mood) next to the big guy Shameekh.

<-------- im really liking this character now !!!
