Touching Lives Serving the community. Discuss ways to give back to the community. Form groups and help out the world in whatever little way you can. Our belief - "Touching Lives - One day at a time"
Anyone who has ever made a determination discovers that the strength of that determination fades with time. The moment you feel your determination flagging, make that determination once again. Tell yourself: "OK, I will start again from now!". If you fall down seven times, get up for an eighth go at it. Just pick yourself up and renew your determination each time. Say no to Cigarettes and live a healthy and creative life!
If you don't have it here (pointing to the heart), it doesn't matter what you've got here (pointing at the head).
I don't know why people take up smoking. The reasons stated above seem logical but I am not sure. I started it because of sheer boredom. I was in the college then and semester exams were going on. I used to study all day and see my make-shift room mate smoke one after the other. So, it was a mixture of curiosity and ennui that made me try it. Its been more than 3 yrs now and just 4 days back I gave it up for the first time. Though its a very short time to comment but I can see the effects. My appetite has improved now and feel way less tired after a days work at office. I think If I can go the whole week without touching that cig, I might as well go the whole year.
I think its more of a 'will power' thing than anything else. Our body clock gets used to the times when we usually have a fag, like just after meals, in the morning etc. After quitting, its these times when you have a very strong urge to fag and if you can resist this, then quitting should not be a problem.
Best of luck to the guys who plan to quit. It’s a different kind of fun.
Mostly the smoking addiction occurs by watching young dudes smoke....and then trying just for the heck of it !! and slowly it becomes a regularity. Very bad habit I must say. And quite irritating for the passive smokers. Should be completely banned on earth !!
do agree with u ..........moreover i dont understand if somthing is "INJURIOUS TO HEALTH" then how cm responsible Governments allow these things to b sold in the mrkt...................... i myself have tried to smoke a couple o times........but fortunately i dint like it....n i fail to understand wat ppl like about smoking..........according to me if somone seriously wants to quit smoking then he/she shud first o all start keeping track o the amt o money they waste in such activities...........n yes medical help shud b sort in case o addiction......i dont know if this post adds any value to the discussion ....but...i wanted to b a part o this anti smoking campaign

i dont know who came up with this thing like smoking is cool... man it must have been a heck of campaigning by the sutta makers. I think Marlboro was the pioneer in that.
On teh lighter side (no not the lighter, lighter ) i thnk the smokers believe in destroying everything that is bad... so they burn every cigarette they can lay their hands on and smoke it away
Why repeat old mistakes, when you can always make new ones!!
hi Puneet ,
i guess since neither i am a smoker myself nor have i practised social work a lot still i tried
to make people quit smoking by talking to them through Brainstoming sessions, ........
not that i am an Expert at that but i just found it doable enough to carry it on.......
have gt results too ......most of them have quitted...........others well have reduced their intake..............so i guess it also depends whether you think you have some sold reason as to why do u want too convince them to quit a habit of theirs that is well beyond any business of yours.............try to convince someone ....it cud be anyone around one.......if u find u are gud at convincing ppl wid ur arguments and can answer to their conter-statements ..well Go on ........
and for that ,
BEST OF LUCK FROM MY SIDE,
CHEERS!!!

Hi guys,
I feel we sometimes smoke because we have already lit a cigarette..and dont muster up the courage to throw it..when we dont feel like smoking..tell me how many of us can make up our mind to throw the cig even if you dont feel like smoking?

Hi. A friend of mine was a serious chain smoker, upto 5 packets a day sometimes. He was really skinny, but even if he didn't have money for buying 2 idlis for breakfast, he'd borrow some to buy a pack of cigs. He kept trying to cut down on it slowly, but it wasn't working. So one day his girlfriend gave issued an ultimatum, to choose b/w her and cigarettes. That day, he gave it up. He got a high fever, due to severe withdrawal effects. His hand still shakes sometimes. But he finally quit at 21 what he'd started at the age of 15.
Is there anyone in your life who wants what's best for you? tell them to leave you, or never talk to you or see you again if you don't quit smoking immediately. And implement it if you don't. Punish yourself, or make someone else punish you. Believe me, it'll work.
