its been a while....since the chennai PGCS chapter got off the ground...and truth to be spoken...it wasnt smooth sailing...what with the constant lack of ppl...but ppl there were....and 5 at that, earlier this afternoon.....finally ...we are gettin our bearings in order...and tho by and large...chennai CS is still in its nascent stage....we ve got a fresh lease of life by the presence of a few new faces...( Yes guys, you are the ones i m talkin abt....i can see those self congratulatory expressions )....rite...we are finally gettin down to business .....and as for the summin up....today....we had a problem of plenty ( that is in the context of the class size).....so the children were by and large distracted.....but nevertheless we did manage 40-45 minutes of serious class....bfor hell , as it always does, broke loose....umm......it wud be real nice...if we cud guve the whole thingie some direction.....lookin forward to your valuable inputs..
Cheers

hey guys!! posted a while back but looks like it got lost
nyways, yeah was a gud experience yday.. guess i learnt a lot of lessons too...

as yogesh mentioned... was nice that... atleast these kids are in a better position now than they were when u guys started....

as for inputs, i was thinking, maybe v cud think of a particular theme for each weekend... like u know... yday v did salutations.... one week v cud teach them basic grammar like u know... conjugations... if u get wat im saying.. things like.. i say u say he says and the like.... smthg like that... later on when they are more comfortable.... v cud teach them important dates.. like sept 5th teachers day... and stuff like that... help them appreciate that kinda stuff...

any comments are welcome and so are further suggestions!!

c ya then!! have a great week ahead!!

regards,
Reshma

Firstly, Reshma, an official welcome to the Chennai PGCS! It was good to see you there yesterday especially after the false starts we've had with a few other PGites....
Coming to what we could teach, I see it this way-
There are two aspects to whatever we do or plan to do at RBO,
1, WHAT do we teach the kids...
2, HOW do we teach it to the kids

For 1, I think your suggestions are quite good, and since we dont have a long term framework inplace as yet, it would be good to have a theme every week and take it one day at a time
For2, suppose we do decide on conjugations for next week, how are we going to get it across to them. Iam not for a classroom-like grammar class,....so I was thinking of techniques like telling them stories which would involve these conjugations, role plays for the kids which would get them comfortable with these words, and so on.....
So what I suggest is this,
by end of Thursday, we decide (on this thread) on the content, be it conjugations or whatever,....Once that's decided, we individually figure out various mediums we could use to get the lesson through, so that by Sunday, each one's got say, a 15 min package to interact with the kids on the topic...I feel that should streamline our activities and should also give the kids less avenues for distraction
From my end, regarding content, I need a day to come up with an option..first of all, need to check up on conjugations... not sure what they are actually... So keep it coming ppl!!
