Re: Bangalore Community Service - 24-04-2004, 10:09 AM

hi ppl
will it b possible 4 every1 to meet tom or shld it be next sat??
Also if someone can collect possible information abt NGOs in B'lore where we can help out..it'll b great...we can collect information about the kind of work they are doing and the issues/causes where we wld like to contribute we can go ahead with those..since all of us are relatively new to this ..
I think we need to consider a lot many issues like language, whether the ppl we want to help will they welcome our efforts or not....from my own experience i can tell u that even though ur intentions are noble its extremely difficult to convince the other person to allow u to help them....in college we had to go and literally beg the parents to allow their kids to come for classes..so i feel that working with an already estbd organization we will atleast get a feel of how things are done

all e brickbats and e tomatoes welcome

Shradha

Hey Topgun!
Neat work man!
Okie we have got 7 NGOs in B'lore on that link.We can select any one by consensus and get going. B'lore junta start giving your details to pixie and lets fix on the date.We are already trying to set up a date on the other thread.Am not too sure if we can do it tomorrow but next Sat definitely seems viable..
What say guys?

Hello friends!

Hum yahan par thode dair se pahunche!!! Koi bat nahi!

well.. yes we'll meet the coming sat and Shardha.. i think this thread is not there in the RECENT DISCUSSION... so ppl are missing out for this! And that's why i'm late here! So we must ask PG or other mods to make it available in the RECENT DISCUSSION!

And Guys before we start searching for the NGO's don't u think we must come to one conclusion regarding the kind of service we are trying to offer???

I'm totally inclined abt EDUCATIONG the masses... what say????

For this we have the "Azim Premji Foundation" and even Sudha Murty also runs some kind of service regarding this!

So let us first decide on the service and then our search for NGO's will narrow down!

So let's start the discussion!

Luv,
Rahul

Okie cool !
Azim Premji's foundation was listed on that link .We have their address as well.We can actually ask them as to what are the projects that need an inflow of manpower or material in the next say couple of weeks..Can we finalize that NGO to begin with?
What say??

the link doesnt give the details of the area wise NGOs i mean education/environement etc etc..
So if we want to go in for education then we'll ask them where can we fit in
also uits not necessary all 15 of us have to go and join one NGO itself, right? we can have ppl splitting into smaller grps of say 3 to 4 and then approach the NGOs and take up activities according to issues closer to their hearts also the conveniece of location and efforts etc etc

wat say ppl?

hi pixie

just wanted to suggest that we should probaly start with only 1-2 ventures. one could be regular, needing us to be there almost every week, or fortnight. the second could be more spaced out, like say a blood donation camp, etc

by the way unlike what someone suggested, we don't have to be the only people donating blood. a more profitable idea is to catch hold of a good blood donation centre, and take them to various colleges and/or companies. that way we get more work done from fewer people.

coming back to the activities, lets try and start from simple. we dont want to be too demanding or we might put people off for the very reason they've been avoiding this work. by consensus lets start small, and take this thing places.

PM me regarding any details that u've decided on. my friend gave me tentatie date as may 16-17 at the forum mall. we could meet even earlier, but i think it would be nicer if we just waited for more people to jump aboard(cmon people show ur leadership skills and come forward for a cause that is soo basic and important).

practically: can anyone find out about the ground realities of these 7 ngo's in bangalore. we could probaly decide on the issue under a few topics:

a> what is the size of the institution?

b> who heads it?

c> what kind of work are they involved in?

d> how many volunteers do they have and how many more are required?

e> what work are the volunteers involved in, and under whom(i.e. what's the heirarchy)?

f> how succesful hav they been in their endevour?

this should be apart from basic info like contact info and area of working.

if enuf people come with ideas, we could start here itself. nevertheless lets not get carried away. keep things cool nd practical.

cya all at the earliest.

ps:there is a spastic society in indiranagar that is doig good work, teaching and helping in all kinds of ways with spastics. will find out more and post more.
