Re: Hyderabad Community Service - 25-04-2004, 09:08 PM

Me n Shameek attended the monthly meet of Social Action Group (called SAG ) today here at Hyd.
It is a loose group of people interested in social entrepreneurship led by eminent people (like Mr. Deverajan, ex-dir RBI) in association with NISM (National Initiative for Social Change's hyd chapter) ..
Quite a few representatives from different NGOs active around Hyd-Sec region were present. Updates about the their current projects, future plans, funds, etc were discussed.

This looked like a good launching pad if some of us around are interested in associating with an NGO. All sorts of projects ranging from water harvesting to projects supporting orphan children to projects supporting HIV +ve people were discussed. We are currently under information overload & it will take some days to sift through that to zero in to something which would make sense to our initiateives.

Meanwhile, anybody around hyd area can get in touch with me or Shameek if they are interested in this.

Thats it for now.

We were actually very excited to see these people discussing their projects .. and every minute of the two and a half hours we spent there .. was well spent ! got a bunch of contacts. some of them education related. and i think pradyumn's project idea is superb. lets try and work out a POA on that. what say guys ?

by the way

www.csim.org is the website for the organization which held the forum meeting today, and i wud encourage all hydies interested in knowing about NGOs in hyd to drop by. they have a meet every month.

Re: Hyderabad Community Service - 26-04-2004, 01:58 AM

think i m pretty late in posting here abt my awaited conversation with Ms Shanta Sinha

... anyway, i called her up this evening and she was apparently very happy to learn abt our commitment of payback to society ... also amused at the name PaGalGuy.Com ... n prospect of getting some well educated volunteers seemed to be very attractive at her end ...

she has invited the interested souls to the office of the MV Foundation [thru which she runs her projects] for a small briefing on the project n their scope. she'll be available there after 5 pm on 27th April. also gave me the contact number of the office ... PMing it to Shameek n Subbu, so that they can decide upon the further course of action ... others may PM me or them for the same

cudn't note down the address of the office ... yours truly being half-a-km away from any pen-paper, while wandering on the campus-streets ... anyway, we can call to the office n confirm the address again ... this is wt i cud recall :

201, Narayana Apartments
Near some theatre
one street next to Parade Grounds
West Marredpally
Sec'bad ... not sure of nething except the number though

this is supposed to be a briefing, i repeat, where u don't have to commit for anything ... so i m expecting a good attendance at the meeting ... we can take a broad idea, as to which project(s) will suit most to our capabilities n routines ... i think, we'll have to do a li'l HW on the work being done by her organization, to maximize the benefit from the meet ...

so guyz we have sth to start with ... which makes us the 1st such community leading the pack among various PG-chapters ... i m destined to leave the portals of my college (n hence this city) within a week ... hoping that i get to contribute by helping in a proper start ... b4 i get nostalgic, i must sign-off

keep posted ...

Ouch... looks like i missed out a lot of action on this thread thanks to my self-imposed net ban.

Count me in on any volunteer work with Shanta Sinha & MV foundation. It's a great way to "give back" to this lovely city.

Cheers

hi junta ... sorry for being late again to respond ... y'day i was snoozing all day ... u all know my routine these days ... again terribly busy in the night ... daily depleting hostel mob gives us realtime blues here

so, 6:30 pm seems fine by all estimates, if it suits the working junta ... will give them [MVF] a call to confirm ...

n shameek praji ... are yaar coordination sounds a bit too heavy a word for lukkhas like me ... haan i'll request others to turn up for the meet if they are not too deeply entangled in the 'Web of Our Life'

lookin forward to meet the enthu junta at the office

PS: Marredpally is the area after 2nd flyover from Anand theatre ... i.e. the one next to the flyover at Paradise junction ... check it out !!!
