Hi Guys,
It's heartening to see so much enthusiasm here on volunteering, especially as few years back even i was going through the same phase but once i got started it has become a passion now. The following words that i write are primarily intended to guide you through this syndrome and also to gather support for an NGO (Sshrishti) that i am part of:
To be effective in this field
1. Act: Meeting and discussing a lot wont help. There is so much out there to be done that even if you are a misfit in an NGO for sometime, someone would be benefited, less or more. For Delhites there is a site called
.:: Y O U T H R E A C H ::. which is doing a tremendous job in finding the right match, contact them asap.
2. Suitability: Choose an NGO closeby, and youthreach will do a good job here. Last thing you want is your noble intention to be awashed by inertia of travel.
3. Be regular: Do only those things that you can do consistently. For working guys dont opt to teach students, you are doing them more harm than good by making them switch teachers every week.
4. You are needed: Guys we all have tremendous opportunity to do, even with our load of work and studies. Because this sector is so underserved that even most basic help can aid a lot. For instance when i joined Sshrishti it took me 1 hour to teach staff there some basics like Ctrl F in excel, till then they were sifting through a 1000 row data to find phone no.s
In case any of you are in south delhi close to vasant kunj, i would gladly invite you guys to join sshrishti, please visit our site to find more
