also .. car pool has its share of problems ... it works well for a couple fo weeks .. then someone leaves early ...someone leaves late .. some one leaves the job... etc all kinda problems come in.
dont see car pool replacing public transport.

Instead of getting into an argument, let us see the bottom line here... and the bottom line here is, that the prices are controlled by the OPEC countries and not the pertoleum companies of India. The govt. and these companies are giving more than enough discounts and subsidies... So what is the option? We can do this conservation from our end..
a) By pooling
b) By using public transport
c) By maximum sure our vehicles are tuned for optimum performance to give proper efficiency
d) Observing proper practices like switching off the engines when waiting at the signal
The petrol companies are also coming up with better varieties of petrol, eg Bharat Petroleum has come up with Speed which is a new and more advanced variety.
We need to look for alternate varieties of fuel... like Fuel cells, or solar powered cars, which can reduce the load on oil.
As amit suggested, the govt. has come up with other public transport facilities, like rail metro and sky bus (was planned was 11 cities originally.. kochi being one of them)
If we feel that travelling in buses/trains is degrading, we need to change our thinking and it is high time we do it. Even our public transport system, has to be made better... There are buses which have a 3rd grade fuel efficiency and hence, release a lot of smoke and consume a lot of oil.
The police should ensure that the vehicle-owners who keep their engines ON while the vehicle is parked and go away, should be fined. This way, they will realise.
Lastly, we need to present the hard facts before the public. This will open their eyes and they can understand the true nature of the problem.Advertising in this regard, is also needed.

Ya gaurav's point is valid ..some ppl do leave the engines on idling ...
And have u guys ever noticed how much diesel indian railways waste .. Have u guys ever noticed that diesel engines are always on ,even if they are just parked .. if they are supposed to pull say in a while .. the reason the engine drivers cite is that once they start a diesel engine it gulps a sure shot 65 litres .. so thats why they keep it on ...
So in the end it just boils down to proper planning , but I notice , that I have hardly seen a diesel engine which is not running, whenever i travel by train ... So this is the common reason all over india ...
and lastly have u ever noticed how much fuel the army wastes ... i m not talking abt the genuine expense..
My roomate in my engg college had a army background ... my college was in ahmednagar , which is around 150 km from pune ... Can u believe , 2 army men , in a big dcm toyota truck , brough one mattress , one bucket and one mug .. all the way from pune , where his dad was posted .. and he told me all this with such pride ..
have any of u guys seen a worse example ....
regards

shailesh | That was a lovely example........ or rather a ' worst example' of wastage of fuel ( and manpower). Our Sarkari mantris and babus could also do with a little conservation of fuel. MICAn for Life, 18 till I Die... !! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
