Donate educational items( books etc.) to disadvantaged children - 25-08-2005, 05:23 PM

  • Do you have any book which is sitting idle in a corner and you know that you wouldn't have the time to pick it up again ?
  • Are you planning to clean up your library and want to add some new books? As you would need space in the shelves you could do away with a few books.
  • Do you know someone who has school going children and has books and educational products apart from the regular school books, which they would be selling off to the neighborhood kabadiwala very soon?
  • Are you moving towns and would like to keep your movers n packers bill under control ? You feel that you have books which you don't necessarily want to take along with you to the new place.
  • Do you have educational games/toys which were once your favorites but then like all of us you moved on in life and those games/toys are sitting on a shelf without anyone paying attention ?
  • Do you have any educational CD Roms/softwares which were helpful to you during your educational days but you don't really need them anymore?
  • Do you have friends/relatives/acquaintances/office colleagues who could fall under any of the above categories or would know someone who would be?
..Then, you could really make a difference to the lives of so many people who are not as fortunate as some of us. How about people donating their story books, novels( like enid blyton etc.), picture books, educational toys( like abacus, rubic's cube etc.), educational games (like scrabble etc.), comic strips (like tintin, asterix etc.). I feel that a lot of this stuff goes to the neighborhood kabadiwala when it should ideally go to someone who could use it. We could also talk to our colleagues, friends and relatives so that we have a collection. In case there are more ideas to make this endeavor work please chime in.

You could donate the educational items to a neighborhood NGO or send a PM to me so we could put you in touch with someone who can work with you.

While some of you are at it - 25-09-2005, 09:44 PM

I got a huge bag full of goodies from a friend in office..She has a cute little school going kid. As a kind gesture she spared some of the nice things for Udayan as she liked what I am doing (I guess!) ..I am going to give the goodies to the children at Udayan..one piece at a time..I am hoping that they don't put the books in the library but read them and use them so much, that the book bindings start saying "Thank you" !

I would continue to wait to hear some of your stories
