I got the question wrongly.

Right answer:
Pick the box which is labelled "both oranges and apples"(incorrectly labelled).
Pick one fruit from it and see it.----2 scenarios

1. It is an apple. then the box labelled "oranges" has both the fruits and the third box has oranges. now change the labels accordingly.

2.It is an orange. then the box labelled "apples" has both the fruits and the third box has oranges. now change the labels accordingly.

Done :-)

Buddy the question does not state whether we have to take only quadrilaterals into consideration.
We can also for hexagons, septagons or for that matter polygons with n sides.

I think i dd some mistake in the answer. I m gonna correct it now :

Now since any of the polygons will be having the 81 points on the chess board as its vertices.
(there are 9 X 9 points(not blocks) on a chessboard).

Now number of lines formed by joining any of the two points = 81C2

Now we have to subtract tho outermost boundary lines, since they cant be diagonals. = 4 X 9C2

So the answer will be 81C2 - 4C2

My earlier answer was wrong..... .. logical error..

I THINK IT DOESNT MATTER IF IT IS A PARALLEL0GRAM OR NOT AS THE CASE 9C2,9C2 WILL ALWAYS YIELD THE SAME RESULT,TAT IS THE TOTAL POINTS.

some more to go! - 05-06-2005, 03:40 PM

HI GUYS OUT THERE HERE ARE SOME OF THEBRAIN TEASERS TO CHECK OUT!
QUES1. You wake up one morning and there's been a power outage. You know you have 12 black socks and 8 blue ones. How many socks do you need to pull out before you've got a match?:grab:

QUES2. involves the truthtellers and the liars. It goes like this: You're trying to get to Truthtown. You come to a fork in the road. One road leads to Truthtown (where everyone tells the truth), the other to Liartown (where everyone lies). At the fork is a man from one of those towns -- but which one? You get to ask him one question to discover the way. What's the question?:grab:

Yaar when u have got two socks out then there r two possibilities---
1. both r of same color = 1 pair
2. both r of diff color.

In first case u have got a pair but in 2nd case u r yet to get a pair.
Now when u pick the third sock out, it will either be black or blue.

So that will also give u either a black pair or a blue pair.

Hence it is for sure that u will have a pair of three socks.

Yaar
can u plz explain why u r subtracting 4*9c2 for subtracting outer boundary lines(a little more explanation)
I cun exactly understand it.
Provide more gyaan into it

Also plz explain how many squares can be formed in a chessboard

I think the answer to the question about truthtown should be

"How can I reach ur place"
Both will point to Truthtown only

luv

Dude
1 Cut the bar between 1 & 2
2 Cut the bar between 3 & 4
Now u get 3 pieces with lengths 1,2,4resp.

day 1: give 1 u have remaining 2 and 4
day 2: give 2 take back 1 u have remaining 1 and 4
day 3: give 1 u have remaining 4
day 4: give 4 take back 1 and 2 u have remaining 1 and 2
day 4 give 1 u have remaining 2
day 6: give 2 take back 1
day 7: give 1 u have nothing remaining
