Three Cheers!!! - 30-04-2005, 10:36 PM

Yes Good job popeye. You too cracked it...

Remember the point made by the author that there is only one unique answer. So by mostly logical reasoning and a litle trial and error it becomes easier if u find a unique set of answers because if u get one set of answers which matches the logic and the given conditions, then that is the right answer... But as the author rightly points out this fact need not be disclosed....

assignus's approach is on the dot with the excel sheet. Great method and approach. You are on the right track as far as clarity of thought goes. I wish I was more like you here.... But popeye made a beautiful point about the wordings as in actual answer and answer option inconsistency... But if u double check there is only one particular meaning used and not both.

Now there remains only one final twist.... Wondering what it is....

Check out the answers...
DAD BEDDED A BAD BAD BABE....

Yes its a reasonably correct grammatical sentence and some guys get this somewhere in the middle and can solve it in less than one hour. Ofcourse they are to be called God!!!

And Yeah this in CAT is an impossibility but i believe the CAT could easily use the main idea for a smaller more easier set of questions... Dont you think....

I would bet both of u would crack the DI section if u havent cracked it already...

I got a bit confused what that 'answer' meant in the Questions. So I thought that they might mean 'answer options' like A/B...and proceeded and got stuck.

Than I took answer as 'actual answers' and got stuck in one question again. So I made the assumption. My VA is a bit bad :huh: so got confused with 'answer' thing on several ocassions, so just made assumptions and went ahead. Did not see your excel file, you have solved using a different method. So I think my assumptions don't apply to you.

Yes as quoted by me this is a puzzle developed by a Math Prof Jim Propp. Some chap Latto may have pointed out the non-need to reveal that the answer is unique.

Actually popeye's point has been raised by other folks too...
Everything about the SRAT is here http://www.math.wisc.edu/~propp/srat.html

That is the assumption I was talking about. You assume it is actual 'answer' and not answer option & proceed. Otherwise you get stuck as I got initially

Re: (QA,DI,LR) The SELF-REFERENTIAL APTITUDE TEST - 19-03-2006, 10:53 PM

I was asked this puzz in my infy test..and puys..i lost in the test only coz.. of this q.

I already received this q from a cousin as a forward..but I did nt care to slove.

In the jan 8th batch..1245 attended Infy offcampus and 54 were shortlisted..
I did a 9/10 correct and left this puzz...and puys who solved 10/10 would have been the short listed.
You see..I lost my chance..coz..of my laziness..

So all junta..who regularly visit the preparation forums..take each Q seriously and try the approach.

Einstein's Riddle!

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage.

The question is: Who owns the fish?

Hints:
The Brit lives in the red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left of the white house.
The green homeowner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the center house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
The German smokes prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.
Einstein wrote this riddle early during the 19th century. He said 98% of the world could not solve it. Its not hard, you just need to pay attention and be patient.

I got the ans....Ask me if you cant arrive at the solut.
