2. A bag contains a total of 105 coins of rs1,50p,25p. find total no. of 1rs coins if there are rs50.5 in bag and it is known that number of 25p coins is 133.33% more than the number of 1rs coins.
1) If all 80 km are travelled on foot, time = 80/8 = 10 hrs
if all 80 kms are traveled on bicycle, time = 80/16 = 5 hrs
but average time is 8

10--------8--------5

so dist foot : dist bike = 3:2
so 48 km on foot

I don't think you can apply alligation formula for speed.....probably because speed is in reciprocal so wont follow normal addition subtraction rules....like vg speed!= a+b/2 but 2ab/a+b

Apply alligation on time...... 16km/hr---- 5 hrs and 8km/hr---10 hrs
resultant 8 hrs

x/(80-x) = (10-8 )/(8-5)= 2/3 => x=32

So 32 kms with 16km/hr and 48kms with 8 km/hr

U have...the following eqns

x+y+z = 105
x+0.5y+0.25z = 50.5
& z = (233.33/100) x

Solve these in terms of x & y..to get the values..thats all

Thanks
Vivek

Still a long way to go...

x+y+z = 105 ...i

100x + 50y + 25z = 5050
=> 4x+2y+z = 202 ......ii

solving 1 and 2 v get

3x+y = 97 ...iii

given z = x + ( x+x/3)
=> z = 7x/3 ---->sub in 1 v get

10x + 3y = 315 ...............iv

solve iii n iv

v get x = 24,y=25,z = 56

Looks like this thread is much active then the thread for TSD so m posting a question of TSD here sorry 4 this.

If a man travels 3 distances that are in AP with speeds that are in GP such that the middle term of the AP is equal to the middle term of GP and the common difference of the AP is equal to the common ratio of the GP, then find the average speed for the entire journey given that he took 72 mins for the first part of the journey and 42 min for the last part of the journey.

30^40
=(34-4)^40
=(17*2-4)^40
~(-4)^40
=(16)^20
=(17-1)^20~~ (-1)^20=1
