I am not able to get the solution of this problem . Someone please expain it to me

Fifty minutes ago if it was four times as many minutespast three o'clock, how many minutes is it to six o'clock?

The answer is 26 minutes. This is a problem from Shakuntala Devi . Answer is given in the book but solution is not given.

initial answer...

94 minutes.

EDIT LATER: the wording is arcane so the confusion is imminent (atleast to fools like me)

180 - 50 - x = 4x
26 = x;

Then its 26 minutesl

one day, mammu set a very interesting problems to me.she pushed a large circular table we have at home, into corner of the room, so that it touched both walls and spilled a spot of ink on the extreme edge , she said , "mummy here is a little puzzle for you.

look at the spot .it is exactly 8 inches from one wall and inine inches from the other .now tell me the diameter of the table without measuriong it....
can you?

The diameter of the table is either 10 or 58 units. If it is the correct answer, please post next problem.

We can first find out the inclination of the line joining the point and the corner with any of the walls and then we can find the radius easily.

I got the wrong approach.

The answer will be 58 inches and 10 inches will be rejected.

can u pls explain me how did u get the 58 inches as ans? iam poor in geometry


few more question:

1.an artist wanted to paint a picture on canvas which would allow for a margin of 4 inches on top n bottom n 2 inches on each side .he wanted the picture itself to occupy 72 square inches.
wht would be the smallest dimensions , the canvas he is going to obtain , shud posses?
ans:canvas is 10 inches in width n 20 inches in height


2. is there any shortcut method to do this?

can u find largest possible number containing any 9 of the 10 digits , considering 0 also a number, tht is divisible by 11 , without a reminder?

3.Numbered on the side of my house are the house one , two ,3 n so on .All the numbers on one side of my house add up to exactly the same as all the numbers on the other side of my house.
i know there are more than 50 houses on tht side of the street , but not as many as 500.
can u find house no


4.is there any short cut method to find this out?
can u find 4 nos such tht the sum of evry two n the sum of all four may be perfect squares?

5.the 4 sides of the garden are known to be 20,16,12,10 rods . and it is also known tht it has the greatest possible area for these sides .
can u find the area?

pls help me out with this probs.
