One of the arms of a balance is longer than the other. If 1kg is kept on the left pan,it is equal to 8 water melons. If the 1kg is kept on a a right pan, it is equal to 2 water melons on right. If the weight of all the watermelons are sam, what is the weight of the water melon?

frends pls help me solve this problm...the answer given is 200gm whras wen i solved it i got 250gm

What i think is that the sum total of 10
(8+2) watermelons is equal to 2kgs(1+1). So the weight of individual watermelons would be 2kgs/10 which is equal to 200 gms.

I think the above problem is already solved and explained. Here we should consider that the square root of the product of the two given numbers is what equals the weight given. (ie) sqrt of 8*2 = 4 which is the number of water melons whose weight equals 1 kg and hence each watermelon will weigh 250 grams only.

hi frends
thanks for solving the puzzles posted by me...i have another 1...pls try 2 help me as soon as possible

Players were playing a card game. Cards had different colours on both sides. Neither of cards had same colour on both sides. Colours were 2 Red, 2 Blue, 2 Green, 2 Yellow. Cards were lying in front of each player. Now, each player knew the colour on other side of his card. They are required to tell their colour.
Statement given by each of them was :
Annie : Blue or Green
Bobby : Neither Blue nor Green
Cindy : Blue or Yellow
Danny : Blue or Yellow
Colours of cards that are visible to all were Red, Blue, Green, Blue in order of their names. Exactly two of them are telling truth and exactly two of them are lieing. Can you tell the colour on other face of card for each player ?

pls post the reply for this...i dont have much time

Re: Shakuntala Devi - 24-01-2006, 09:11 AM

Just assume that u start from washigton at 10. Then the train started from NY at 5 will exactly reach Washington provided there is no time delay in between. This is the first train . Similarly u will reach NY at 3 pm. So in the mean time u will see trains coming from opposite . (ie) from the trainstarted at 5 to the train that will start at 2.30 . Hence the number of trains u will meet will be (14.30 -- 5.00) /2 = 19. Hence 19 is the right choice.
