Hii buddy
I think u can solve the problem ....theres no need of any more data .........

just consider this equation

Let the lenght of bridge be 2L

Distance of train from the nearer end of bridge be X
Now train travelled X-1 distance and Cow travelled L-5 distance in same time

Now if Cow runs in opposite direction( i.e away from train)..it will cover L-5 distance while train will be 1 feet away(since it covered X-1 distance) from other end of the bridge. Cow will be 10 feet from other end ........Now train covered entire 2L distance while Cow was able to cover only 9 feet out of 10 feet.
So Ratio of speed of Train and Cow is

9/2*L where L= lenght of bride in feet.

Now rest can be solved :-)....if still u cant i will post the solution

A cow was standing on a bridge, 5feet away from the middle of the bridge. suddenly a lightning
express with 90 miles/hr was
coming towards the bridge from nearest end of the cow.seeeing this the cow ran towards the
express and managed to escape
when the train is one feet away from the bridge. if it would have ran to opposite direction
(ie away from train) it would have been
hit the train one ft away from the end of the bridge.
Calculate the length of bridge.:grab:

Solution:

Suppose that the length of the bridge is 'd' units and the train is at a distance x units from one end of the bridge and hence (x + d) units from the other end.

If the speed of the cow is v, then according to the ptoblem, we have:

(x - 1)/90 = {(d/2) - 5}/v ---------- (1)

and

(d + x + 1)/90 = {(d/2) + 5 - 1}/v ---------- (2)

Dividing (2) by (1), we get:

(d + x + 1)/(x - 1) = {(d/2) + 4}/{(d/2) - 5}

On simplification, we get:

d^2 - 8d - (18x + 2) = 0

Solving for d, we get:

d = 4 + square root of (18x + 18 )

For x = 1, we get d = 10

For x = 7, we get d = 16

For x = 17, we get d = 22

For x = 71, we get d = 40

.......... and so on.

An observation. - 12-06-2005, 03:33 AM

Dear PG'ites.

I am new to PG and hence what I am about to put forth may look like redundant info to many, here it is...plz lemme know if it frayed some nerves out there..

Is there a scheme or something which rewards number of posts/messages. There are several messages in the forum which look forced, say for eg. the other day I saw some'ng like.
"Study Hard Guys" and something like" Failure is blah blah ..whatever" suddenly in a post which was otherwise moving forward with continuity and relevance to the last post. This one stuck out like a sore thumb...

Anyways..thats that...

I have a problem which I need you guys's opinion on...

I strongly feel that I have what it takes to crack CAT. However, my tempo slackens pretty regularly and my preparation is not at all systematic. It could be cos of various reasons. What I want inputs on frommy seniors and co-aspirants is on how to tackle/approach/remove this tendency. Whats THE way to get rid of procrastination?

Also, if guys can post some typical problems on Number Systems(remainders, it will be cool)

Problems I am having difficulty with:

1.)Remainder when:
i)7^11^32^256 is divided by 1024
ii)3407^333+4^97 is divided by 123
iii)(244^1500)-1 is divided by 1001. (Answer for this is 0, but I have no clue how they got
this.

I can find the last digits but how to get the remainder is what I am looking for help on...

Another sum I want help on is:

#.) Tenth digit in 39^780

Will really appreciate your help

May God Bless all of us.

Thanks,
Kartik.

U are referring to what we call "spamming" . Well frankly speaking there are several posts which can be attributed as spam although some may not be intentional. If u want to express ur views about how to reduce spamming on PG u can check out

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8846 (How do we reduce spam on PG.com ??)

Coming to "procastination" well that's pervasive n one with a strong will power can overcome this...... Keep reminding urself of ur goal......every second, every minute, every hour day n night.......that will keep the thought of procastinating away and if u have the confidence of what it takes to crack the CAT thats as good as half battle won......jus focus now on being systematic, set short targets and achieve them.....

Coming to the problems

For 244^1500 - 1 mod 1001

the approach is

factorise 1001 into 7 x 11 x 13

Now jus check for divisibility of 244^1500 for 7, 11 and 13 individually each leave a remainder of 1

hence their LCM 1001 also leaves a remainder of 1 and when u subtract 1 i.e. the remainder u will have a number thats perfectly divisible by 1001 hence the remainder is 0

Your I can is more important than your IQ

Problems I am having difficulty with:

1.)Remainder when:

i)7^11^32^256 is divided by 1024

Solution:

7 can be written as (2^3 - 1) and 7^11^32^256 when divided by 1024 = 2^10 will lave a remainder (- 1)^11^32^256 = 1024 - 1 = 1023

solution not clear to me - 11-07-2005, 02:35 PM

hi guys i have been a silent watcher here.
the solution to the question (244^15000 -1)/1024.
i feel is incorrect. the author said that when 244 is individually divided by 7,11,13 the remainder is one. which is incorrect.
guys please evaluate ur answere before posting.

the solution to the second question is not understandable as well.

am sorry if i have been a little harsh
