BAD POST

Question

Seven friends namely P,Q,R,S,T,U,V passed their board exam in 2007 .The result was announced on a sunday and from the next day , they started organising parties on consecutive days . Each one of them organised exactly one party. On none of the days was more than one party organised.
They decided that only four kinds of items viz. Dosa,Pizza,Burger and Idly would be ordered for dinner parties. The costs per plate of dosa, pizza, burger and idly were 25,45,20 and 15 rupees respectively. The following additional information was available

1. In each of the dinner party , total number of plates ordered , taking all four items together was either 8 or 9.

2. Each dinner party had different combination of number of plates of different items and each type of item was ordered for atleast one plate but not more than three plates .

3. Q hosted the party immediately after U.

4. P,R,S,V had ordered for more number of plates than the other three and hosted their parties immediately one after another in that order only.

5. The total number of plates of dosa, pizza, burger and idly ordered were 14,16,18 and 12 respectively including all dinner parties.

6. In each dinner party , at least three items were ordered for 2 or more plates .

Q1) If S paid 35 rupees more than R , then what was the amount paid by R when she hosted the dinner party

a.. 220
b.. 210
c.. 260
d.. either a or b
e.. either b or c

Q2) If the maximum possible amount for a dinner party was paid on monday , then who hosted that party

a.. U
b.. P
c.. R
d.. T
e.. V

Q3) If Q ordered for equal number of plates for each item , but paid Rs. 5 less than T in the dinner party hosted by her, then what can be the maximum possible difference between the amount paid by Q and the minimum possible amount paid by any other friend

a.. 30
b.. 20
c.. 15
d.. 10
e.. 5

Q4) Which of the following could be the day on which maximum possible number of friends could have hosted the party

a.. Monday
b.. Tuesday
c.. Thursday
d.. Friday
e.. Saturday

Q5) Only U,Q and P ordered for 2 burgers each in the parties they hosted. Also, only Q,T,P,R and V ordered for 2 pizzas each in the parties they hosted and only P and R did not order for 2 plates of dosa each in the parties they hosted. How many plates of Idli did R order in the party hosted by her

a.. 1
b.. 2
c.. 3
d.. either a or c
e.. either a or b

Solution by Sasank

hi Mahi,

the plates for 4 of the parties were 9.
now,the possible combinations were 2+2+2+3 and 3+3+2+1

for 8 plates,2+2+2+2 and 1+2+2+3

S paid 35 Rs more than R.

2+2+2+3=>cost can be 225/235/255/230

Confusion

3+3+1+2=>cost can be 200/205/210/220/230/240/245/250/260/265

difference of 35 can come with (200,235)(220,255)(230,265)(205,240)(210,245)(225, 260)

1)option (D)

2)maximum amount is 265 as shown above.for 8 plates,maximum possible is 240 Rs.U and T are out.S spent 35 Rs more than R,so,R is out.remaining are S and P.now,S can be 255/245 from the options of 1.as 265 is also possible,it has to be by P.

option (B)

3)Q ordered 2 items of each type.so,total cast is 210 Rs.T ordered dishes worth 215 Rs.minimum possible amounts are 200,235,210,205,180

so,maximum possible difference is 30.

option (A)

4)option (C) just list the days and write the possible cases and add,you will see how.

5)option (C)
draw a table with names at top and dishes vertically.we can fill all blanks except Dosa of P and R,which can be 3 or 1.

if P orders 1 Dosa,she should order 4 Idlis,so,this case is out.only case satisfying is 3 Dosas by P and 1 Dosa by R,with 2 Idlies by P and 3 Idlies by R.

what are the OA's??

p.s.i refrained from posting detailed answers as they can act as spoilers for puys, who are interested in trying out the questions but havent seen them.just in case, you have any doubts regarding my posts, you can always pm me [/QUOTE]
S paid 35 Rs more than R.

The DOubt is:

3+3+1+2=>cost can be 200/205/210/220/230/240/245/250/260/265

in above soln, can anyone explain the abv bold part...it's correct..but how can we get a series of values satisfing the condition given ie from min to maximun price of ordering burgure, pizza, idly,Dosa in combination of 3,3,1,2 in any order...(is it just a hit and trial or is thr any better method exist)...Pls help.

These four stalls had 16 sweet and namkeen itmes among them to sell. There were a total of 9 Sweets and 7 namkeens in the offering.

my answers are
Hi MIRCHI-P
MIRCHEEZ-Q,R,S,T,U,W,X
MIRCHI MASALA-V,Y,Z
MIRCHI MASALA-K,L,M,N,O

Q1-it shud be none of these as all can bought combining items of the 2 stalls
24-5+4+7+8
38-13+4+9+11
same way each of the options can be calculated taking items from both stalls.

Q2-(21/72-15/115)*100=16.12%

Q3-57/79=72.15%

Q4- 6+(7+3)+(12+15)+(8+9+10+11+7)=88

Are the answers correct?

Re: CAT 2009 LR-DI Thread - 09-11-2009, 11:30 PM

I am having trouble with this set. Dont know where am I going wrong.

Everyday Ms Yadhav, Ms sharma, Toppo and Hussian go to a park for a morning walk. One day they reach the gate of the park at the same time and immediately start walking on the only circular track adjacent to the gate. Ms Yadhav, Toppo, Hussain go on a clockwise direction while Ms sharma goes anti-clockwise. Ms Hussain who is asthamatic is the slowest amongst the 4 and soon others move away from her. Like everyday she cud walk only one round taking almost the same times as others to complete their morning walk. After her walk Ms Hussain reads the instructions written on the gate while others join her one after another. "Walkers are requested to use only the 500 m walking track. Plucking of flowers and leaves are strictly prohibited. The park will remain closed from 6 pm to 5 am."
While walking Ms Yadhav overtakes Ms Hussain twice; once near the fountain and the other time at the signature rock. Ms Toppo and Ms Sharma cross her 3 times.

Q. Wt is the total distance covered by Ms Sharma and Toppo together?
a. 3500 m
b. 4000 m
c. 2500 m
d. 3000 m

Q. How many times Yadhav and Sharma cross each other on the track?
a. Twice
b. 3 times
c. 4 times
d. 5 times

Q. How many times Ms Toppo wud overtake Ms Yadhav?
a. Never
b. Once
c. Twice
d. 3 times

This Problem is A Verbal based..It Tests your speaking skills....

Have my Reasoning, 1st Number = 1, Or You Can Say One 1

So, Next Number = 11, Read It as Two 1's

So, Next Number = 21, Read It As One 2 and One 1

So, Next Number = 1211, Read It As One 1, One 2, Two One's

So, Next Number = 111221, Read It As Three 1's, Two 2's And One 1.

So, Next Number = 312211

Whats The OA ???

Using smiley after A Long gap....

I think its a) 312211.

1st no is 1. Its got one 1. Thats what is the second no. is, 11

Now 11 has two 1's. Thats what second no. is, 21

21 has one 2 and one 1. Thats the third no. 1211

In this series, the last no has got three 1's, two 2's and one 1. The next no. should be 312211
