What is the coefficient of x^200 in [(1 + x)(1 + 2x^3)(1 + 4x^9)(1 + 8x^27)(1 + 16x^81)(1 + 32x^243)(1 + 64x^729)]^2?
1. 0 2. 228 3. 230 4. 229 5. 231
Hey is this Ans correct?
there is power 2 over the main expression
so I think...max power possible can be 121*2=242
I think power 200 is possible....
can some one through some light on this? Correct me if i am wrong...
Thank you

Thanks for pointing out the same. I have revised the earlier solution (answer is still 0). Please cross-check again
1.

terms containing powers of x greater than 200 can be neglected as they wont give 200 (no negative powers)
remaining terms can give powers of x (before squaring) = sum of (0,1,3,9,27,81) taken 2 at a time = (0,1,3,9,27,81;4,10,28,82;12,81,84;36,90;10
After squaring the expression either powers of x will be doubled or taken 2 at a time since (a+b+c+...)^2=a^2+b^2+c^2+...+2ab+2bc+2ca+...
since the original non-squared expression doesn't contain any power of 100, final expression will not contain any power of 200
taking sum of powers of x taking 2 at a time can give a maximum power of 90+108=198<200
=> there will be
no x^200 term in the final expression
hope solution is clear now
what is the official solution btw ?
