Practice Test 2 was on similar lines to Test 1, with same format, and almost same distribution to each topic of
Algebra/Numbers/Geometry/Arithmetic/Logical/DS questions.
Most of the people who score 99.XX in quant in CAT do so primarily because of their good accuracy than more number of attempts.
The perfect way a student should approach his/her preparation is by ensuring that he/she is consistently having more than 85% accuracy in the tests, and then attempting to enlarge the competency areas [by coming out from the comfort-zones]. A great advantage when you know that your accuracy is good is -> you can gradually look to increase your speed and yet be certain that any question you touch will turn gold for you. The feeling of somewhere in the middle and uncertain how you have have fared so far in the midst of a test can spell doom.
9 problems can be classified as easy, and we would like to hear from you as to why you didn't get these right in the exam itself. Was it an error not to read these and understand what needs to be done before taking the decision to attempt or leave it, or you didn't have the competency in areas those questions were from that prompted you to skip these?
The nine problems are -> 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11, 18, 22, 23, and were meant to be solved in 3 minutes each.
DS questions in this test were not easy, and would have grilled even the best.
A person with sound preparation and who had developed a decent test taking approach in quant should have managed 36+ in this test.
The cut-off (i.e. 96 percentile for almost all the IIM calls) score will be 30 marks in this test. 90 percentile (for a solitary IIM call, K/I/S) will be close to 20 marks. 41 marks will be 99+ here.
Students should have ideally looked to attempt 12 questions in this kind of paper with good accuracy. For the 1st two tests of QQAD, the cut-off has been not more than 30 marks. Students shouldn't assume that attempting 10 questions in quant is safe for a good score as scores can vary depending on the nature of the paper. We might have CAT 2008 quant, where even 13 correct answers may not be safe. Hence, be hungary along with a good knowledge of your strengths and weaknesses when you attempt the paper.
