I do like all the help you extend to people committing mistakes with the day's QQAD including myself.But somehow comments like the one above in bold are a tad discouraging.Kindly avoid them.The corrections are welcome.We appreciate your help BBLT 2007 Orkut | QQAD | Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes; Art is knowing which ones to keep!

according to the given rules any two of the following 4-tupples can be selected
{1,2,4,8}, {3,6,9,12} and {7,11,13,14}.
How ever 5 and 10 can never be part of S'.
Hence n(X) = 2. Answer - (1)

answer(1): 2
The subsets which follow the conditions b and c are:
i) 1->8->4->2
ii) 3->9->12->6
iii) 7->11->13->14
iv) 5->10
Since S' has exactly 8 elements, subset (iv) will be left out always.
So the only subset which can't be part of S' is (iv), having 2 elements. ----------------------------------------------

hi puys!!!!!!!
i am new around this
a friend of mine introed me to this
the Q's are explicitly AWESOME and WICKED
anyway for QQAD #008
option 3 i.e.
n(x)=3
how??
consider that s'' is subset of this s' with the same conditions other that condition 1if we extend this to find if
1 can belong to s'' then we end up saying that any element belonging to {1, 8, 4, 2} belongs to s'
in similar lines we observe
{3, 9, 12, 6}
{5, 10}
{7, 11, 13, 14}
{15}
X belongs to {5, 10, 15}
hence n(x)=3 | | | | | | | |

Great work on today's problem, will have tough time tomorrow assembling the list of names for all those who cracked today's problem
The suggestion to give problems of similar topics is good, and we tried similar thing in QQAD 2006 as well. But, it didn't lead to desired results due to various reasons. A person is said to be n years old, where n is a non-negative integer, if the person has lived at least n years and has not lived n+1 years. At some point in time, Anupam is 4 years old and Nilesh is three times as old as Shrikant. At some other time, Shrikant is twice as old Anupam, and Nilsh is 5 times as old as Anupam. At yet another time, Nilesh is twice as old as Anupam, and Anupam is Y years old. There are different possibilities of what Y can be. What is the largest possible value of Y?
Time Anupam Nilesh Shrikant
1 4 yrs 3x x
2 k 5k 2k
3 y 2y
5k-3x = k-4
2k-x = k-4
=>3k = 2x solving we get x= 12 and k = 8
Time Anupam Nilesh Shrikant
1 4 yrs 36 12
2 8 40 16
3 32 64
y = 32 is logically the max value Thanks
