I think 19 lives can be saved and last person will be having 50% chance.

My approach was

Let Red cap= +1
Black Cap =-1

now 20th person will take product of corresponding value of caps for all the pepole standing in front of him and tell the color of cap corresponding to the product. so he will be having 50% chance

simillarly 19th person will take the product of all 18 cap values of pepole standing in front of him he knows the product of 19 caps so he can tell the color of his cap

for 18th-2nd person, they can tell the color of cap using the equation

Product of corresponding cap values of pepole standing in front of him* his cap value* preoduct of corresponding values of color of cap told by pepole standing behind him starting from 19th= Corresponding value of cap color told by 20th person

for 1st person equation will be
his cap color*preoduct of corresponding values of color of cap told by pepole standing behind him starting from 19th= Corresponding value of cap color told by 20th person

Hi Everyone,

I have seen this thread and last year's too but I find a big problem.

We are preparing for CAT not just any exam. I think we have to plan and play. I think, those of us who are quite good with DI can do this :

First lets get all the Fundas and tricks that we know abt DI, LR etc and post them here, then we can pick the sets in a specific way ; like we could pick the DI questions of Graphs, then pie charts, then logical reasoning questions etc.

What do u say Puys ???

If u agree, then anyone who wants can start posting his/her Fundas and tricks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys i gotta doubt....

There are 6 sticks of different heights which are to be arranged in two rows of 3 each such that the sticks are in ascending order from left to right in each row, and the stick in front is always smaller than the one at the back. How many such arrangements are possible?

guys the answr is... 5 but i dont know the method to do it except making all such arangements and counting them... is there any short way?

hi eric,
i think the method of permutations will be used in case if the number of sticks is very high (hence the number of arrangements)...
here the arrangements can be counted easily so the way you have used is correct...

PS:the answer must be correct...by hook or by crook...

mate u r very right..... but making all such possible arrangements took me a lot of time !
Could u tell me how to do it by P&C?.....so that i cud apply it to other such Qns wth larger numbers given !
