from where does "x1 = -11/2 and y1 = 5/3" came..
see when we are given 2 points (x1.y1) and (x2,y2)..

the equation of line is...

(y-y1) = [(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)]*(x-x1)..

find equation of line from here...

then substitute the cordinates containing x1 and y1.. in the quation..

to get values of x1 and y1..

5)The number of points (x,y) satisfies i) 3y-4x=20,ii)x^2+y^2=<16
is/are?

x^2+y^2=<16 this is a circle whose radius is 4 and the line 3y-4x=20 intersects at one piont
Infact its is tangent so ans is 1 point ???

soln 2 :
(x-c)(x-b)/(x-a) = K
b+c>=2a
hence option 2 b=<a=<c

??

Re: official quant thread for cat08 - 11-09-2008, 11:29 AM

simply put the pints in the equation
like
eq. of the line joining the point (2,-1),(5,-3)
2x + 3y -1 = 0
(x1,4),(-2,y1)

2x1+3.4=1 x1 = -11/2 and
2*-2+3y1=1 so y1 = 5/3

option (3) 2x+6y+1=0 satisfies

masooom i am correect ??
i am now master in silly errors thats why asking

@shivam bhai..

line will be

(y+1)=-2/3(x-2)

3y+3=-2x+4...

2x+3y=1..

so this time i comitted a silly mistake
