shouldn't it be 17+7 = 24?
Why is (3) returning?
Or did I misinterpret the question again?

I've done it by what you can term as trial & error..And a bit of common sense since x and y are integers..since (4,4) is obvious..checked it for 1,2,3 and -1,-2,-3

hmmmm, the value on rhs was small if it was big, you would have been in trouble!

Is it 2?Consider f(x)=x^4+|x|-10=0,f(1) is negative and f(2) is +ve . Also f(-1) is -ve and f(-2) +ve

x=2y/(y-2) this will give only 5 solns for integers!!

y-2=+-2y
y-2=+-2
y-2=+-1
y-2=+-4

Don't know where i have gone wrong

Friend..
U hav gone wrong in ur first statement itself..

Let No of males=>m No of females=>f

If 15 females are absent,remaining females=f-15
So,according to the question...

f-15=2m (This is the place where u mis understood the question..)
f-2m=15----(1)

If 45 males are absent,then remaining males are=m-45
f=5(m-45)
f-5m=-225---(2)

Subtracting (1)-(2)
3m=240
m=80

f-2m=15
f-160=15
f=175
