Re: official quant thread for cat08 - 08-02-2008, 05:57 PM

Use the concept a*b = gcd(a, b)*lcm(a, b)

x1 = 19.1, x2 = 19.5, x3 = 19.(5.1+1), x4 = 19.(5.6+5), x5 = 19.(35.6+6), ...

When p and q are co-prime gcd(p, pq+q) = gcd(p, p+1) = 1.
=> The common terms other than 19 are co-prime

Re: official quant thread for cat08 - 08-02-2008, 09:26 PM

I think the above problem reduces to (2/3*3/4)N +(3/4*4/5)N = x*N
This comes as N/2 + 3N/5= x*N and x =11/10
Did u get confused in words??
