In fact the total number of such squares which dont contain the 2*3 marked square will be
26 + 5 + 2(2+2) =39.... | | | | | | | |

ya but this rectangle can have dimensions larger than 1X1 and can actually contain the marked point....like for example there are 2 4x5 rectangles which contain that point...

Originally Posted by cloudsonfire Q>Within a 5X5 table, a box is marked at the intersection of second row and third column. How many rectangles formed by the boxes of the table do not contain the marked box? | here possible rectangles are 6C2*6C2
but need to sub those containing the designated box
going vertically if i choose 1st line then i need to choose line 3,4,5,6 ; same for if i choose line 2
going by the same logic if horizontally i choose line 1 then i need to choose 4,5,6 as the other line
so we have (4+4)(3+3+3) = 8*9=72 which has our box
so we have 225-72 =153 हवामे ताश का घर नही बनता|

3 Honda Civics, 4 Pajeros, and 5 BMWs are to be parked in front of a dude's house for whom girl's family is coming to see him. In how many ways the cars be parked such that no 2 Honda Civics are next to each other, no Pajero is adjacent to a BMW, and all the cars are being parked?
we have three honda cities and 4 places around these three
of these four the middle two need to be filled
so we have three options 2 middle ones filled, 2 middle and one side one filled and all four filled
if 2 -> we have only two ways
if 3-> we have 2 ways to choose from. also we can split either bmv or pajero in 2
so we have 2*(3C1*1*4+3C2*3*1)
if 4-> 4C1*1*6+4C2*3*4+4C3*3*1
total 152 हवामे ताश का घर नही बनता|
