Quantitative Question # 80
------------------------------------------------------------
Question:
100 ex-students of the same batch meet for alumni meet in the campus of a B-school. The benches of Fr Prabhu Hall in the B-school are arranged in a rectangle of 10 rows of 10 seats each. All the 100 have different salaries. Each of them asks all his neighbours (sitting next to, in front of, or behind him, i.e. 4 members at most) how much they earn. They feel a lot of envy towards each other: a person is content with his salary only if he has at most one neighbour who earns more than himself. What is the maximum possible number of ex-students who are satisfied with their salaries?
(a) 72 (b) 32 (c) 48 (d) 64 (e) none of the foregoing

My approach is as follows : let the salaries be from 1 to 100. arrange all the numbers along the boundary in decending order from 100, just refer to the figure attached. and then start putting numbers in places where only one immediate number is present or none is present. u will be able to arrange numbers upto 35 that is 34 still are left. that means 66 are satisfied with their salary.
so answer should be 66. none of these.
@Aarav / Vineet can u just check my approach.

Hi Sunit, the answer is among the 1st 4 choices only. Keep trying and BTW, you can post your answers to questions that you got correct in PT 2 in the other thread.

No test for this weekend. Also the NL stands suspended for next 5 days due to problems with the system. Yesterday's NL has not been delivered to everyone so far and today's was fired more than 11 hours ago but has reached just 28% people till now. Apologies all, we will be back on Monday, hopefully with things corrected.

It takes us around 20 hours of effort to make 1 practice test, we get a lil disappointed when just 4/5 participate in the discussions. Since we had promised 4 practice tests, we will deliver them but may not be immediately.
Good Luck Debashis, hope to see you back soon :-)

Hey aarav ... Don't worry bro
Those tests were really helpful to know at wot level we are and wot need to be done ... the cold resposne might be because ... the discussions were during the weekends ... Most of us slog five days a week and then coming to office(to access net :() during weekends when junta need to prepare for mocks and analyze them ... so hau can we find time to participate in discussions ...
This time conduct it during weekdays say wednesday ... and I am pretty sure dat there will be better response ...
P.S :: I took the test got 25 marks

Ok ... I had seen that, but didn't count the # of solutions by you. Is it 14? If you feel like then go ahead to solve those that you left in the test.
