see let x be the subscribers for each
so we have 3x -(7+12+9)+3=302 solving which gives me x= 109
now you can constructthe following Venn and all will follow

can some body explain the answers to this please ...
1.
a crew can row a certain course up stream in 84 mins, they can row the same course down stream in 9 mins less than the time taken to row in still water. how long would they take to row down the stream?
(a) 45 or 23 mins (b) 63 or 12 mins (c) 60 mins (d) 19 mins
2. if a,b,c,d are in continued proportion then [(a-d)/(b-c)] >= x, then what is the calue of x?
3. if A varies as C and B varies as C, then which of the following is false?
note: assume ~to be the proportionality symbol
(a) (A + B) ~ C
(b) (A - B ) ~ (1/C)
(c) (AB)^(1/2) ~ C
(d)none of these

1.
any takers
2. if a,b,c,d are in continued proportion then [(a-d)/(b-c)] >= x, then what is the calue of x? I took a,b,c,d as 1,2,4,8 ;got lhs = 3.5
took a,b,c,d as 1,3,9,27 and got lhs = 4.33
hence will say x=3
3.
(b) (A - B ) ~ (1/C)

1.
a crew can row a certain course up stream in 84 mins, they can row the same course down stream in 9 mins less than the time taken to row in still water. how long would they take to row down the stream?
(a) 45 or 23 mins (b) 63 or 12 mins (c) 60 mins (d) 19 mins
d/(u-v) = 84 -- (1)
d/u - d/(u+v) = 9
d=84(u-v)
d.v/ (u.(u+v)) =9
84.(u-v)(v) = 9.u(u+v)
28uv-28v^2=3u^2+3uv
3u^2-25uv-28.v^2=0
3u^2-21uv-4uv-28v^2=0
3u(u-7v)-4v(u-7v)=0
so u is 7v or 4/3v
from (1) d/(u-v) = 84 => d/v = 84.6 or 84.1/3
we need d/(u+v) = d/8v = 84.6/8 = 63
or d/7/3v = 3/7.(28 ) = 12
alternative
d/(u+v) = x
d/(u-v) = 84
u+v = d/x u-v = d/84
so 2u = d(1/x + 1/84)
d/u = 2/(1/x+ 1/84) = 168.x/(84+x)
given
d/u - d/(u+v) = 168x/(84+x) -x = 9
168x= (9+x)(84+x)
x^2+93x+84.9= 168x
x^2-75x+84.9=0
(x-12)(x-63)=0
so 63,12
2. if a,b,c,d are in continued proportion then [(a-d)/(b-c)] >= x, then what is the calue of x?
take values as a,ap,ap^2,ap^3
lhs= p^3-1 / p2-p = (p-1)^3-3p(p-1)/(p(p-1))
=(p-1)^2/p -3 >=x
(p-1)^2>=(x+3)P
p^2-(x+5)p+1>=0
b^2-4ac should be >=0
(x+5)^2>= 4
X^2+10x+21>=0
so x<=-7 and x>=-3
3. if A varies as C and B varies as C, then which of the following is false?
note: assume ~to be the proportionality symbol
(a) (A + B) ~ C
(b) (A - B ) ~ (1/C)
(c) (AB)^(1/2) ~ C
(d)none of these
option is b.
