IT Companies in which work culture is favourable for CAT preparation - 12-11-2004, 06:49 PM

Hi all,

A few of my friends have been complaining of tight deadlines which made them frustrated as they couldnt study for CAT and now they feel they are lost this year. So this new idea where we can discuss which companies are good for experience for IIM entry and gives sufficient time for CAT preparation.

heres what i know..

Companies in Mumbai in IT have longer time schedule( unofficially) then bangalore since bangalore had many MNCs and good traffic problem making time schedule of normal 8-9 hrs. In mumbai even one comes at 10.00 and goes at 6.00 pm , its too early for home.

My take on this is that, if a company is allowing you an opportunity to "prepare" for CAT then probably you are not learning much. Which in turn means its not working for.

I see a case of misplaced priorities whenever such discussions are on. Don't take me wrong, but this is what I see from the question/poll. I rather work in a place where I am getting to learn. At the end of the day even if CAT doesnt work out I'm atleast satisfied doing whatever Im doing. Realize that very few actually get thru IIM-A, be optimistic but take a reality check (you could get sick for all that you know).

I don't know if I am making sense, but atleast think about it.

HTH,

Arun

This is not a good discussion at all. When in your office, do your work and not CAT. In case, you do not clear CAT, you can at least become proficient in it. This attitude will reflect later also.Utilising the available time to the maximum extent is the best thing a manager needs to do.

Regards
Morpheus

Hia...

Preparing for CAT while working is the coolest Idea..Coz Nothing like Work Ex with MBA...But it is Unethical to work on CAT when Office work is to be done....
W
hen employees are allowed some time of their own or the lean phases especially in IT Industry when there is no work..For Example US client Projects have free time during Christamas and Thanxgiving the its okay to Work on CAT but Not when theres lots of work to do....

Managing time and toggling work and Cat is in itself the PRECURSOR to a successful Manager of TIME.

arun, morpheus, slamjunk...
methinks u r not taking his post in the right spirit...
he's not exactly saying that he wants a job where he can prepare for cat during office hrs...
he's just talking abt night outs at work etc...

well..tallvishal...
i suggest u join a big company where u'll never be indispensible...
so if u wanna take 2 weeks off before cat it won't matter to ur company that much....
moreover in big companies nobody cares...
(err...when i say big i mean the number off ppl working there)...
and join someplace where they have cosmopolitan manners(i.e. they don't ask personal questions like 'why didn't u come yesterday?')...
i work in this company with just abt 200 ppl and ppl hv very very indian manners
so when i took one week off i had to answer (read lie) the watchman at the door, the receptionist, the cook and all my nosey teammates...
that's very irritating...

I've got better things to do than argue with every wrong-headed crackpot with an ignorant opinion! I say, either agree with me or take a hike! I'm right, period! END OF DISCUSSION!

my godddd....big companies????

i beg to differ....it is your relationship with your superiors that matters..dont confuse this with bootlicking...

if you have a good relationship going with your boss and he knows that you dont take leave until and unless it is necessary....you are bound to be a good manager whenther u do an MBA or not...

talking abt Indian manners....i m a bit confused....

dont u think Indians treat other human beings as humans where as those Highly Sophisticated Whites treat indians as live stock...sorry if i m rude

Seeing all these posts makes me wonder......
How do u define Work Exp.???
Does work exp means just being associated with a company??? Thats it?
Wot wud work experience b worth if all one did was to hang arnd in the company?
I mean if a person is joining a company without intending to put in 100% into his job then is it good for the person?
