Hi frnds,
I think I can help you on which notebook is better and which configuration, b'coz I work in company which is related to that.
As far as manufacturers are concerned, my vote will go to Dell b'coz
Dell: Customizable configuration, good customer care service, stylish but somewhat bulky notebooks, costly but can be bargained.
HP: More of business kind of notebooks, reliable, stylish but has fibre coating so chance of damage is more, very less customizable.
Sony: Best if you want to spend 1L rupees on it, stylish, high end models are very goodlooking, bulky, Best display (use panasonic LCD display), graphics.
Toshiba: Costly, but high end models are also available.
Acer: Never go for it, unless you have some finance restrictions

. Use AMD processors and some lower end Intel processors. Haa but otherwise globally it is no.3 vendor.
IBM: Muzhe nahi chahiye. Very rugged, compass box type looks, not much interested in that.
Lenovo: IBM's brother. but better in looks, higher end models, costly and 'China ka maal hai'.
Therefore I would like you all to prefer Dell (I'm not the agent of the Dell, earlier I used to hate Dell, but now changed the mind due to facts maintioned

).
Before buying notebook you need to consider following things:
1. It should have once in lifetime configuration

.
2. Processors, graphics cards are the things which you can't replace everytime. So, choose such things carefully. B'coz it should be usable atleast upto 5 years to come.
3. Don't think why to invest much today, B'coz you are the one who will get benefits.
Now, Important thing is Dell has launched new series of notebooks called Inspiron 1520 which has new age Santa Rosa Processors
About Santa Rosa: These are Intel core 2 Duo processors with 800MHz FSB i.e Front Side Bus (Earlier it used to 667MHz). More the FSB, more the processing speed, lesser the time required, lesser the energy consumed.
My configuration will be:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 (2GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium (We can check whether we can get XPP b'coz vista is more problematic)
1GB (1x 1GB) DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (Up to
4GB shared Dual Channel 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory
15.4" Wide Screen XGA (1280x800) display with TrueLife
120GB SATA HDD (Don't take below 100GB)
8x DVD writer
Ports: (USB 2.0 (4)
Integrated 10/100 LAN (RJ45) and 56K Modem (RJ11)
IEEE1394a
8-in-1 Memory Card Reader
VGA video output & S-Video
Stereo in, headphone/speaker out & Dual digital mics
1 ExpressCard 54mm Slot)
9-cell 85WHr Li-Ion Battery
90W AC adapter
Integrated 2.0 MP camera (With 8 different colors of skins, choose anyone)
Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 802.11 a/b/g Mini Card Wireless
Bluetooth 2.0 / Consumer IR
This notebook costs Rs. 64626/- to us.
But when we will ask for bulk deal and same shipping address, I hope we can get atleast 5-6K discount. Also my friend bought Dell notebook last month, and if we place order through his account, we will get some more discount.
But, I am not able to arrange for finance till I get admission in cet based colleges (I'm going to arrange Edu loan). So, Before admission (Last week of July) I can't deal with Dell. If you are interested in above maintioned config, and want to buy this notebook with me then plz scrap me on my orkut profile with your name, mobile, your choice of colour of skin (B'4 that log on to Dell's website Dell.com)
My orkut profile: search for 'ambrish jamodkar' in orkut
